I found a hack of Super Mario Bros. 2 - Lost Levels, that converts the FDS rom to a MMC3 NES rom. I believe it's supposed to be the most 1:1 of all the conversions. I hope this can be preserved because the website seems to be gone. The author of the hack is "Loopy."

Huh. I didn't know you could just change the extension to gbc. I'm emulation station on my RG CubeXX (The wideboy I like to call it) it won't see normal Gameboy games in the color section, it wants them separate. The way I got around thid, was I just zipped them, because it has .zip as an acceptable file type.

This is getting re-released as a bundle with Ace Combat 8 on PS5 (hope the rerelease has Neko Case!!)

The English fan translation seems to be glitched. It crashes when I reached Devil Gundam in story mode with Shining Gundam. I tried the Japanese one and no problems there.

The Lightsaber game was Star Gladiator and its sequel Plasma Sword

It freezes whenever you speak to any NPC, or try to initiate story events.
EDIT: about your second comment, the fix talked about below in the comments applied to a previous version of the hack that was uploaded here as a pre-patched ISO file that was incompatible with OPL (most likely because it was just a renamed BIN file). G1 and G2, as you probably know, were shipped as pressed CDs, not DVDs. When properly ripped, they're in BIN/CUE format. However OPL only supports ISO format, even for PS2 CD games. So conversion is necessary. Fortunately this time the new pre-patched file is in BIN/CUE from the get-go, and you only need to use OPL Manager or other bin2iso converter w/ the right settings to turn it into an ISO file that OPL will play.

The cutscene art is mostly terrible. But don't let that stop you from trying the game! I mostly prefer the Generation 1 and 2 remakes because of the added story, dialog and lore, which there are TONS of.

I'll try to burn a disc and try when I can. When and where does it freeze?

Also, in the older comments someone mentions a fix for playing off HDD. Unsure if that still applies?

Even the fan-translation scene has been a nightmare for making the lore terms consistent as much as the original English games are. Even the SMSPower fan translation of PS1 retranslated a bunch of terms that didn't need retranslation at all IMO (as great as the work is). My hope was in doing PSGen4 that I could use the terms used in PS1, and then fill that in with the fan translations of PSGen1 and PSGen2, to create a consistent experience through all games.

But no one will just use the same lore sheet. I know it sucks for newer players!

Crazy, I decided to see what the first game was, but expect it to be this.
Despite not really liking the Black Rock Shooter anime, I always just liked her black haired Miku design, and owned this game many years ago.
I actually just started an indie looking gacha game called Starward, because Black Rock Shooter is the special promo character right now too (and because the Virtual On type combat it has is fun and kinda rare these days). I'm not a big gacha fan, but hopefully I can get her for free and just play casually.

I'm happy to finally play a fully translated version of the game, but I also.. kind of hope that at some point someone will go through and fix the gear and technique names to make them consistent with the other games. Definitely sucks to have to keep double checking what things are cause you're not familiar with the names.

Unless they reversed their decision to go with alternative names at some point during the translation work.

Honestly, I think the game is kind of ugly compared to the Genesis version. Feels like some of the atmosphere and elegance of the sprite work was lost.

Despite the hack author's assurances, the new patch seems to have a major flaw that causes freezes on real hardware if using OPL. Someone should try burning a copy to disc and see if it'll freeze up when talking to NPCs. if not, then its probably a problem with OPL since the game works fine in emulators.
