Zombie Girl is one of those bands I only found out about through the defunct VampireFreaks Music Store, perhaps the greatest alternative music resource in history.

I hadn't really thought about the group or their music for about that long, but one of their songs came up through my random playlist while I was doing chores and it all sort of came back to me -- they really are very good.

I'm only gonna give you my favorite song to listen to, but I hope it's enough for you to give them a chance:

Rock on! 🤟❗

HOLY SHIT!!...
I never thought... here, of all places, I would run into someone else who heard of, knew, or even remembered Zombie Girl. The only CD I ever had of theirs was Blood, Brains & Rock 'N' Roll. I got it in 2009? I want to say maybe 2008. That's fucking ludicrous, Waffles.

Hah, of course you'd know them.

I don't think I ever bought a full album, but I genuinely enjoyed the stuff they posted over at VF.

Good Halloween vibes.

Well i do have the weirdest run of luck, about finding the strange and weird, as you well know ::cirnoshrug

Good Halloween vibes.
Absolutely >:D

I don't even remember now where I ran into the album.
I had gone out of town for work-related stuff. I was still in my punk goth girl phase pretty hardcore and would frequent random odd stores, be they music, thrift stores, etc....

I saw the album and bought it for like a buck.
I had no idea who it was and I just bought it out of purely liking the band name and the CD cover. I thought it was going to be some lame-ass local band that made a few CDs.

I ended up loving it. I think I in fact, still have it boxed up somewhere, much like the old RAZR phone and other old junk of mine. I plan on sometime looking through them and seeing if anything is worth donating to some thrift stores.

If I run across it, I'll snap some pics, if I remember to, I mean.

You wouldn't believe how much music (and how many games) I bought because of that factor alone. It's kind of amazing XD

It's a shame that they didn't seem to have gone places with their music, but it's probably pretty niche for mainstream audiences to enjoy... Like 99% of the stuff posted on VampireFreaks (ever had an account there?).

the old RAZR phone
I doubt it'd even power on anymore, but that can be worth a pretty penny now that's officially "retro". None of mine have survived the curse of battery rot U.U!

Same... movies, music, comics, etc. I have hordes of weird stuff... more than I should have honestly. XD

Aside from that one CD, I never heard of them beforehand or afterward. I don’t even remember if they ever played anywhere, really. If they did, I either never heard about it or it was in such niche places that it was never reported, except via word of mouth.

No. until you mentioned the site not long after I joined here, I never even knew about it. I think, probably at that time, I was a pure 4channer, shitposting and the like, being the typical edgy goth asshole.

Much like now XD

Well like I said in the old phone thread a couple of days ago or whenever, I took the battery out before it got boxed. Old batteries like that tend to randomly explode or catch fire. It might actually power on if I get a new battery for it.

If I remember correctly, I put the charger in with it.

I legit have an entire Reader's Digest collection that spawns seven decades because the price was right XD

That's a shame, but there's a reason why they say the music industry is hard to break into.

One of my favorite singers of all time, Sita, managed to get her music on The Wild Thornberries Movie and it was the goddamn end credits song, yet she's largely unknown across the music world, even though listening to her is a delight.

While I do think you'd have felt at home there, I don't think it would have necessarily been a good thing for you to join -- it could be quite toxic and had bullying as a bit of a state policy.

Our shitposting edgelord ;D

A few years ago, I was beyond ecstatic that I had managed to locate my old Nokia, and immediately tried to plug it in. I was baffled by the lack of response and opened the back compartment... It was swollen beyond all recognition ::nervous-prinny ❗

Ya, know what ya mean.
I know a lot of people who had really good bands, sent in demos, etc. Before YouTube, mind you, and absolutely would have made it big, but they received rejection after rejection letters with their tapes back. To quote Marty McFly

"Get out of here, kid. You got no future"

But worded much nicer.

I remember you saying this in another post about VF...

I don't know, I was a pretty vulgar-mouthed little punk bitch at that point in time.
I probably would have torn into them pretty hard. Just 180 degrees from who I am now. Polite and personality wise, I was the poster child for

"that is absolutely not the girl to bring home to mom"

The kind of edgy punk girl who would have definitely told one of my friends

(which I may or may not have actually done in earshot of their mom)

that "I would totally Lick your mom's carpet clean"

And I knew she could hear me XD

That sucks so much, it ain't even funny... But there's a reason why they say the music industry is full of tone-deaf people -- do remember that someone showed Queen the door and the eventual CEO of operations for iTunes was told, to his face, that he had "no understanding of music" after releasing his only song ::cirnoshrug

Right. CEOs are like that, from what I understand.
They tend to prefer the safe path of least resistance that will generate the most profit. I get it from a company or business perspective.. it's absolutely terrible, but I understand it. That's also why movies are all the same garbage nowadays, and why most music sounds like the same auto-tuned vomit.

Oh... that's not even in the top 100 worst things I said and did at that age, hun. And yes, I was kind of a menace, but I was smart enough to know who to show that face to and who not to. I absolutely could bullshit cops into thinking I was Little Miss Sunshine, even dressed in baggy Hot Topic girl jeans... you know, the ones with more belts than a Harley-Davidson with a high-performance racing engine, a J.T.H.M. T-shirt, fishnet long sleeves, five earrings in my left ear, three in my right, and a tongue piercing. My friend Jez said i was "Slicker than snake oil'"

What's most annoying about that is that it genuinely convinces people that they aren't cut for an industry that would absolutely love them.

Check out Magnus Mefisto, for instance:

Yes, this is rough, but there was true talent behind it. If you go to his channel nowadays, he does have one million subscribers... Posting clickbait-y conspiracy videos.

And yes, movies are insufferable these days also.

Same here (the being careful who I showed my hand to bit, I mean XD) -- I suspect it's the only reason that kept us both out of juvie.

What about hair dye? Always wanted to do something wild with that, but not great for a male.

Most likely. I have at that time come REAL close to wearing heavy metal bracelets, and not the awesome punk kind XD
What about hair dye? Always wanted to do something wild with that, but not great for a male.
At that point in time, it wasn't as widely spread as it is now, and it cost an arm and a leg to have it done back then. I think for any odd color at the time, it was over $150 to get your hair colored like that, solely because it was such a niche thing, you know. The store bought stuff was utter trash at that time. Plus, my hair was pretty long then, almost to my ass. Not so much now, as it started giving me headaches. So, it would have cost me over $300 USD to get it dyed, and I definitely wasn't trusting my hair to the boxed products at the dollar store.

And fair enough, At that time.... at least, most guys who had their hair dyed in let's just call it what it is, anime colors, were usually the girlfriend of another guy, ya know.
👉😎👉❗
And proud of it, too XD

Same. In fact, I was shipped off somewhere to try and "turn this ship around" (ie "fix this shit") as a last-ditch, successful resource before getting thrown out -- that lasted four years or so.

I know you probably don't want to share any of that in public... But if you feel like telling me your story through DM, I'll tell you mine. I think this could be quite benefitial for us both.

So, it would have cost me over $300 USD to get it dyed
*Chokes on his coffee*.

HOW MUCH?! No way I'm spending the price of a console on an aesthetic thing that's gonna wash out anyway... And this probably doesn't even account for inflation or anything. Yeah, I bet you could have gotten a pretty premium wardrobe upgrade or a sizeable addition to your music collection for that. Good on you for not biting.

And fair enough, At that time.... at least, most guys who had their hair dyed in let's just call it what it is, anime colors, were usually the girlfriend of another guy, ya know.
Ha. Yeah. Wouldn't have survived.

Reminds me of an episode of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide in which Gordie tries to encourage Ned after he accidentally bought and wore a blouse ("a left-handed shirt, you guys!") by telling him about the time he accidentally wore his sister's pants to school: "wasn't that bad... Or at least, I don't think it was. I dunno. I got beat so hard, I passed out" XD

You know... I could probably keep this conversation going for days, I'm enjoying it that much.

Would be your very own, personal curse ;D!

I would rather not relive the whole thing, honestly. A lifetime ago, ya know.
I will say this, though... I got to wear a pretty ankle bracelet for three months, though. Home, School, Work. that was it. Jez got the same

Well, you have to look at it. As long as my hair was, it would have taken three or four dye kits to do it. And then the time and such... yeah, it would have been a pretty penny. As I have stated before, poor kid growing up, I learned real quick the value of money, and I knew when to buy something and when something was frivolous and not worth it. Hair dye wasn't. My hair has lightened over the years, but at the time I'm talking about, it was a super dark, dark brown.. what they classify it as with hair dye "Darkest Brown". It's a couple of shades lighter now, which comes with age. But anyway, they would have had to bleach my hair, and that stuff is murder on your hair.

As for what I used the money for? A down payment on a used clunker car. :D Well, let me be more clear... a down payment to my brother. He said he would match half of what my first used car was up to $1,000. I had $600 saved up from part-time work at the gas station, not counting taxes taken out, etc. Anyway, I found it more important to get a car than to dye my hair.
Ha. Yeah. Wouldn't have survived.
Sure ya would have :D

I'm the opposite: I'm poor NOW, but that's a lesson I have learned all the same (hell, even some FOOD I won't splurge on).

I legit don't know how some people could dye their hair a wild shade like every other month -- that looks like it'd be a complete disaster.

Thank you, appreciate it. As for rocking it?
Eh, I made due, though at the time Jez and I both were hoofing it to work.. about a couple of miles for me and about five more minutes for her, so we got to hang out some, at least. I did get nicknames, though I was accustomed to them at this point in life.
I'm the opposite: I'm poor NOW, but that's a lesson I have learned all the same (hell, even some FOOD I won't splurge on).
Feel you there.. I'm afloat, let's say. I pay the bills and have moderately what I want to eat. Though sometimes, eh, ramen can be used for a lot of dishes, you know. ;D
I legit don't know how some people could dye their hair a wild shade like every other month -- that looks like it'd be a complete disaster.
Well at school, there was this super bleached blonde girl, and her hair always had that straw like look, you know. I mean it was lifeless, dull, and brittle. But she bleached her hair, I think monthly. Stuff is nasty on hair, ripping the proteins and such out, drying it out, and as I said, making your hair look like straw.

I agree, I don’t know how people do it. My hair is the one thing in life I got for free, and I’m damn well going to take care of it.

I mean, it strips the color out of your hair. It's like what bleach does to jeans, if you ever poured any on them or spilled any. It strips the color out and destroys the fabric bonds. Same thing with hair bleach... I just honestly don't know which is stronger...

So.. Thank you, no
Now, THAT was a good investment 👉😎👉❗

I bet you had a blast in yours, probably ran around being a hooligan... like me XD. Yeah, quite a few good ones... I won't go into them. One of the mods would ban me if I went into too much detail about the XD, but it was a little POS blue 1992 Dodge Shadow, I think. Bro chewed the guy down from $2,200 to $1,200. To this day, I have no idea how he did that.

That's not the point, though. It was the same as the picture I'm posting, color and all. It was a bit dinged up, and bro and myself did some work on it, but it got damn good gas mileage too. I loved that little car. I almost cried when it had to be scrapped due to the frame rusting in half. Had it about 5 years so got my money out of it. Got a Pontiac sun fire after that.

In all honesty? I was EXACTLY like the girl from Wild Bird by Wendelin van Draanen: angry, defiant, overwhelmed and completely out of my element -- I did have my moments, though.
Thank you, appreciate it. As for rocking it?

Yeah, I got nicknames, too (pretty annoying and cruel ones at that, too) but I, too, had so much more important stuff to worry about that I just let it all slide... I wasn't the bigger person or anything (hell no!), just very, very tired to give much of a fuck, which I bet was the case for you as well.

Feel you there.. I'm afloat, let's say. I pay the bills and have moderately what I want to eat. Though sometimes, eh, ramen can be used for a lot of dishes, you know. ;D
I have just recently started to buy into the whole "ramen" thing, but I'm very pleasantly surprised! It actually tastes really great and everything, but I can guarantee that it's not the same awesome investment for me as it is for you -- I can literally buy four cans of beans for the price of a single pot of (admittedly premium) ramen. It's sort of become my prize snack more than anything.

As for the other thing... I'm genuinely happy once my bills are paid and that's how my life is at the moment. It's not what I wanted or imagined, but I'm proud of myself for managing when the deck is so utterly stacked against us and I bet you are, too.

That's horrible! I hope someone sat her down for a talk or something.

I agree, I don’t know how people do it. My hair is the one thing in life I got for free, and I’m damn well going to take care of it.
Mine is already falling out due to many years of undernourishment (not starving, just eating critically low amounts of essential vitamins until something had to give) but I agree.
I bet you had a blast in yours, probably ran around being a hooligan... like me XD
I did get on some fights and drove around like it was GTA: Buenos Aires, yes ;D!
Yeah, quite a few good ones—I won't go into them. One of the mods would ban me if I went into too much detail about the XD

That is an AWESOME car! I'd have loved to own something along the lines of that thing, specially in that color.

Mine was a Regatta-S that had had (literally) a dozen owners before me -- it was limping to the finish line when it got stolen by some low lives in 2011. I loved that car, but it's hilarious to me that someone would steal it when it needed four new tires, something done to the engine block and to have the gearshift checked out because it couldn't engage in the higher ones without being forced to. Idiots XD

Oh! And because the universe works in mysterious ways, I had removed the VERY expensive Swiss toolbox I kept on the back two days before it was stolen. I had never taken it out before.

In all honesty? I was EXACTLY like the girl from Wild Bird by Wendelin van Draanen: angry, defiant, overwhelmed and completely out of my element -- I did have my moments, though.
Right I feel you there too. I had a lot of issues and still do, and well, I'm not going into it, but being angry was well within my wheelhouse of emotions. I would flip to it randomly for a long time

That sucks. I hate it for anyone getting the old name sling tossed at them, but I know it all too well. By this point in life, with the whole heavy metal ankle bracelet thing, I was called every derogatory term for a lesbian you could be.. 90s and all so you get the idea.

I'm not going to get into some sob story here, but I think my favorite question was "So, how many girlfriends you got in the click, carpet muncher?" and so on and so forth. I did come back with something the little bitch didn't see coming... grabbed her by the back of the head, pulled her head back, lip-locked her, dropped her ass on the school floor, and told her "12. You want to be 13, dear?" She left me alone.
Right on!
Ramen is very versatile. I don't usually eat it daily. I lived on it as a teen, so I know the feeling. Sometimes, if you just need something quick to go with soup, a quick pasta fix, or even ramen stir-fry, it’s perfect. Many times... ramen has saved my ass when it was a few days until payday.

And as for the investment? Pfffftt. Waffles... I pay 2 bucks for a box of 24 packs of ramen. High-end gourmet ramen, It isn't! XD
As for the other thing... I'm genuinely happy once my bills are paid and that's how my life is at the moment. It's not what I wanted or imagined, but I'm proud of myself for managing when the deck is so utterly stacked against us and I bet you are, too.
And that's the most important thing, Food and the Bill's are paid

and ya.... I can't complain. I own the place I live in, my bills are paid on time, and I may not always have what I want. But I always have something to eat and hey, sometimes that's all that matters. It doesn't help that I get paid bi-weekly, though. -_-;;
That's horrible! I hope someone sat her down for a talk or something.
No idea. She was still almost white blonde the last time I saw her, so no idea. She was that kind of girl who bleached too much and spent way too much time in a tanning salon/bed. I swear she looked like she had leather skin the last few times I saw her. Though she always did smell like a Hawaiian drink, so...

But, that's been well over 15 years ago, maybe a little longer.
Probably wouldn't know her if i bumped into her TBH ::cirnoshrug
Mine is already falling out due to many years of undernourishment (not starving, just eating critically low amounts of essential vitamins until something had to give) but I agree.
Mines pretty secure still so :o
I did get on some fights and drove around like it was GTA: Buenos Aires, yes ;D!
No fights on my end. Mostly after work or during my free time, I would drive to an old store parking lot to get away from everyone and think and just write, scribble ideas, or doodle.... meet up with girls, you know, typical I just got my driver's license and other things Stuff.
Don't worry, I got the right to ban you on the staff lottery... I SAID NOTHING ;D!
Funny, that's not what... never mind <_<;; >_>;;
That is an AWESOME car! I'd have loved to own something along the lines of that thing, specially in that color.
Not the coolest car to have, though now it would be due to retro nostalgia, but at the time I didn't care. I was free and could go anywhere I wanted. (This was a year or two after the whole ankle bracelet incident)
The color I did love on that car. Generally I don't like blue Ten or now, just that car, it suited it. My grandfather told me once that if you repaint a car, you should do so with the same color, or it just won't look right.
Idiots XD
I had to Google the car, as I had never heard of it. Was it a Fiat Regata? If so, cute car. And that sucks, I feel you, honestly. But look at it this way... maybe they broke down in front of a cop car with it.

And yeah, some people are fucking idiots, especially thieves
Oh! And because the universe works in mysterious ways, I had removed the VERY expensive Swiss toolbox I kept on the back two days before it was stolen. I had never taken it out before.
Well, that was a Upside i suppose
