The laws were literally implemented by U.S.-led Allied Occupation **AFTER** WWII, primarily for the purpose of dismantling militarism; however, they had the unintended consequences of establishing the laws which laid the basis for all of the pixelation/etc. for which they are famous for today - this is what the Civil Censorship Detachment was known for.

The 1996 version (this one) is better; it's stylistically superior. The remake takes a unique game and makes it look and feel less unique.

What on Earth are you talking about? It was illegal to even hint at sexuality in Japanese media during the pre-war Shōwa era. The US occupation actually insisted Japanese movies start being more sexual as a counter to pre-war Japanese morality. American censors had an official policy of promoting what they called the "Three S's": Sex, Screens and Sports. Any movie seen as promoting conservatism was banned.
