Ok, so to explain the situation here, I have been trying to start a Game of The Month Club with some friends of mine to play some of the great (and not so great) games of the past. Everyone was very excited to start at the begining of May but here we are at the end of the month and either people stalled out after the first couple levels or havent even played.

So I'm asking all of you fans of retro games for your experiences with LOZ: Minish Cap. I'd like to actually have some content to talk about when i go to record in a couple days so if you'd like to voice your opinion or comments on the game or even talk about some fond memories you have of the game. If you could comment below and keep it to roughly a 5 to 6 sentence paragraph if you can and they might be read on the stream! Thank you in advance eveyone!

I know @Sayo had started a retro game club a while ago where we would choose a game and play it for a few weeks while discussing in the thread. I enjoyed it a lot but I think the pace was a little too quick for me and I wasn't able to keep up. Unfortunately I don't think @Sayo has done any more of these but I don't want to speak for him on that.

I think doing a game of the month here could be a fun idea. I think that gives a decent amount of time for everyone to play enough of the game to have something to say about it here. I do think for games like Zelda and others with RPG elements, it may be harder to complete simply due to the amount of content.

I understand that this is something you intend on doing on your own, but if you would like to extend this Game of the Month idea to people here, you might find some more people interested. I know I would participate!

Its very much still in its baby stages with this being the first month we are attempting it again. I would love to have to other like minded people with a love and nostalgia for games! If people show enough interest here I'd have no problem extending it here too!

I played and beat the game a long, long time ago, when the first "Legal Backup" came out.
Pre-English, mind you. It's a Zelda game, I don't really need to be able to read it to beat it.
So, for the longest time, I had no idea what was going on until I replayed it some years later.
And yeah, it's a fun game, but not my favorite in the series by any means.

That will always be Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link ....Don't you look at me like that...

But overall, I think it's a fine game with some neat mechanics and an overall fun little entry in the series.

if I'm honest Minish cap isn't my favorite either but I did find myself enjoying the kinstone mechanic way more than i thought i would. The tiny link in the big world was a nice way to reuse some of the locations in different ways but yeah with most Zelda games its a copy + paste gameplay. Go here, do this, kill thing, now go here... I think it has more charm than most Zelda games of the time tho and that may be more on Capcom's part than Nintendo.

Funny enough I've been playing through this for the first time on the Switch.

My all-time favorite game is the original Legend of Zelda so there's a special place for the LoZ franchise in my retro heart, especially the top-down view entries.

That said, I feel this is a solid game, but not great. I find it to be a bit too easy when it comes to boss fights and tedious with all the side questing. Older me is not nearly as patient with that stuff nowadays and due to my lack of time to spend playing, these types of games start feeling grindy when there's a ton of side questing to do.

This is still worth a play through and if you like having games with tons of stuff to do aside from the main story, it's a GREAT game. If you want a quick playthrough, this isn't it unless it doesn't bother you to leave off a good chunk of the game because you didn't take the time to complete all the extra quests.

I keep forgetting Capcom made this game.

I honestly wish they would have made a few more games like this, not just with Zelda...
because Nintendo being Nintendo, but with their own properties.
Imagine an ARPG or RPG in this style with Darkstalkers or Street Fighter characters.

That would have been an absolutely fun little game and would have sold like hotcakes.
And you know, they could use some old properties they’re sitting on that haven’t seen a release in a while. Hell, a Ghosts 'n Goblins game like this would have been perfect.

LoZ Tne Minish Cap is one of the GOAT of that era. It’s the first Zelda game that I’ve ever played (don’t look at me like that I was a SEGA fanboy when I was little okay) and it holds a special place in my heart. Btw @Zerpina Zelda 2 isn’t that bad I’m currently playing it along with my “legally” acquired Roms on my backlog.

A Zelda style Ghosts 'n Goblins would have been a great way to use that IP! After taking what they learned from Minish Cap and the Oracle games they could have made a real banger of a game out of that.

Have you guys ever played that Zelda clone Crusader of Centy for the SEGA MD/Genesis? If you haven’t you should give it a try it’s definitely a fun game.
You know, I could swear I have. But honestly, I can't remember, to be honest. My mind's kinda cloudy today

YES! And it built on the basic Zelda mechanics by adding in a companion system. I thought it was definitely ambitious for its time. Without a bunch of spoilers if you haven't played its kind of a two part game with a pretty big story line and a world comparative to Hyrule in LTTP. And who knows, maybe if the Saturn had done better we could have seen another game in the series...

Hated it, one of the most tedious and bland experiences in a game I've ever had from the Zelda franchise. I loved every game in the series up until Minish Cap, and that part in Wind Waker where you have to dig up triforce pieces. The visuals did not save the game from it's boring characters and dialogue, and the whole game felt like it had an extremely forced and scripted approach, giving it little in the way of character, or atmosphere.

I would love to make that a Game of The Month someday just because everyone has played Zelda, but few have ever heard of Crusader of Centy. Since it's on the Switch's Sega app it'd be a great time to introduce people to it.

I liked it except that it was a bit too short and some of the collection elements of the game were absolutely awful. It had a lot of charm to it and built on a lot of what the same developer was doing with the Zelda Oracle of games on GBC where we unfortunately never got the Oracle of Secrets game. As far as 2D/2.5D Zelda games go, it's definitely up there and worth at least a single play through if you've never played it.

Not typically a fan of boss fights in gaming just being giant versions of normal enemies but This game and the Yoshi series make it work SO well. Seeing giant fucked up versions of iconic video game enemies just makes my brain go "woah dude thats freakin awesome" idk lol.
