Given 4 chances to make a good Tony Hawk game. All 4 sucked.
hated1.jpg

Took an iconic franchise and mascot and made them both pretty irrelevant.
hated2.jpg

Bashed their own fans for telling them that they didn't want to play as cringe college students committing crimes to pay their student loan debt.
hated3.jpg

Mass Effect Andromeda sucked. Anthem sucked. Dragon Age: The Veilguard sucked. 3 opportunities with expensive AAA projects and crapped the bed all 3 times.

Myself. I'm always "dev log this" and "just programmed that". Bruh just finish the fuckin game. MORON!
Ooh, good point.

I'm not a *game* developer. But I constantly sabotage myself with exceptions like "this route not developed yet, problem for future Brad"

Outside of self-deprecating humor...

Teams that don't work well together exist.
Talented teams that work for large corps and don't have final say (in direction, or release date) exist.
And sometimes both can exist under the same name, with different people.

There is a cartoonishly large feast of games out there to enjoy.
Bioware wasn't the same team anymore? Ok, what's Obsidian up to? Or Larian? Or Owlcat, or Worldwalker. Capitalism hasn't beaten the joy out of gaming yet, despite their best efforts.

Yoko Taro. The sheer contempt he has for his audience is staggering, wasting their time on tedious side quests that offer no reward, grinding for minimal gains, and purposely awful storylines. If there was any justice in the world he'd never get the chance to create another game.

Another hate thread, marvelous.
I can't think of any, even if they make games I dislike it would be naive of me to hate a group of people working on a complex piece of software that most of its direction is made by people higher up who have no idea.

Harada. Dude clearly doesn't have it anymore and is just blaming the new team for the utter cesspool Tekken 8 is, as if that game wasn't doomed from the start. T8 made me stop being a fan, and I already wasn't super into 4 onwards.

On a lighter note, ArcSystem Works. Nothing in particular, I just don't fuck with anime fighters, lol.

Last but not least, Yoshinori Ono. This guy is responsible for one of my favorite Street Fighter games, and two I incredibly don't like. What happened to SFV when he was in charge was straight up depressing, And oh yeah, Capcom Fighting Evolution. Need I say more? ::lol

(Wouldn't go as far as to call it hate, but these I mentioned sure aren't on my favorite list.)

If I really had to think about someone, I'd say Epic Games lightly as in, not hate but disappointment. Not that the engine is largely a problem but they don't really push it like they used to. Unreal Engine was synonymous with Unreal Tournament or Gears of War. Games that consistently pushed/improved the engine. Fortnite doesn't do anything like that anymore, not on that scale unless you count the RayTracing/Graphic Overhaul but that's just one part.

Reminiscing about how Unreal 3 improved significantly when Gears 2 shipped, Epic had a vision for Gears 2 and retooled the engine and improved alongside developer feedback from other games.

They play it safe and now work with other developers to find areas of improvement, which is good on paper but not everyone has money to hire Unreal Engine consultants. Unless you are CD Projekt RED or Square Enix.

I don't hate studios themselves, just the executives and sometimes specific directors. Gamedev is a really difficult field to work in. The work culture is completely fucked. 65+ hour workweeks, upper managment who pull all the strings but don't have the faintest fucking idea on what their customers actually would want, and not to mention the rampant sexism and harassment that Bungie and Blizzard have been exposed for. A majority of the bad games that people have issues with are not a result of the average dev, but rather the director being an idiot or the higher ups who really control the director telling them what to do because the line must go up.

That being said, any of the slop devs who prioritize money over a quality product would fit the bill. (Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, Raven, Bungie, Epic, Gacha games, etc)

Ah Blizzard, i miss the 90s...

Activision. I hate them for ruining Blizzard. The original Warcraft is the first PC game I remember going with my parents to the computer store to buy. I sat and read the manual the whole way back home. It was also my first RTS game and got me into the genre. At some point we got Diablo and Warcraft 2 as well and I ended up getting StarCraft and Brood War for my birthday one year. When Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction came out we got those and I ended up addicted to that shit for a couple of years.

I loved all those games and I spent an unthinkable amount of hours playing them. Warcraft 2 and StarCraft were my first forays into online gaming. I loved all the different custom maps in StarCraft and I still think it's wild a bunch of genres of games came from them. The first time I ever played tower defense and moba style games were StarCraft custom maps.

I was really disappointed with the way everything went after Activision bought Blizzard. Even before that, I never really liked Warcraft 3 as much as the other two and I never got into WoW but after Activision they seemed to double down on all the stuff I disliked about what they did to Warcraft and did it to their other series as well.

I don't even really think about Blizzard at all any more and I really haven't paid attention to anything they've put out since Diablo 3 and it kind of makes me sad because when I was a kid I thought they were one of the coolest game developers out there.

Death Stranding is absolute peak, though. Genuinely one of my all time favorites. It's a love it or hate it game, and man, do I love that game. I'm excited for the second one. Whenever that comes out on PC, I'll be binging it.

You enjoying the game lol:

I enjoy Death Stranding memes instead lol.

Data Design Interactive:
Made horrible shitty games and gave the Wii a bad name.

Blast Entertainment:
Make extremely low quality licensed property games and shit them out onto the PS2.

Sonic Team:
Lead Developer makes up stupid excuses, puts out nothing but Sonic nowadays, rushes to make deadlines, possibly steals ideas from other companies.

Arzest:
Killed Yoshi’s Island, Almost ruined Pikmin’s reputation, made a fucking atrocious game called Balan Wonderworld, pretty much made Sonic 4 2.0 (Sonic Superstars).

Vanpool:
Killed Chibi-Robo

BioWare:
their games suck nowadays. Also made one of the worst games on the DS.

Epic Games:
Greedy, steals content from others, uses A.I, Doesn’t listen to fans, does very shady practices.

When Yuji Naka was head of Sonic Team, we got Phantasy Star, PSO, Chu Chu Rocket, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, ect.

It IS like that these days, man, honestly indie devs save themselves these days, look at the dude that made the Fear and Hunger games, guy literally made a game about getting fucked and i love every second of it.
Also if i were to say a Dev or Publisher i hate, i would name people instead, Tim Willits, Randy Pitchford, and all the staff of Activision.

Randy Pitchford using Colonial Marines budget to make Borderlands was quite ballsy. If I had been SEGA I would've supernova'd the entire studio in court.

I could go with the easy targets... I could say EA, Bethesda or Ubisoft. But, fact is, I have enjoyed many of their games since early childhood.

One that always gets in my nerves is Capstone... They always seemed one step away from figuring out how to make a great game, and always fell just short, which made them infuriating to follow. They also seemed hellbent on staying behind (which does have its merit -- you ain't outrunning id Software or 3D Realms) and changing things that worked for new things that also worked, instead of adding them on top of each other to breathe new life into old engines.

It's no wonder that they have no legacy despite showing flashes of brilliancy here and there.

I have a Love-Hate relationship with Falcom. I love them for the Kiseki/Legend of Heroes series. But on the other hand, I hate them because of Trails of Cold Steel IV (they threw away all the elements I loved in the best episodes) ::redhot

I get tired of the "Developers are such great people who are above feeling disdain for" and "Let's put all of the blame on the publishers instead of the developers."

Sorry, some people just suck at their jobs.

It's so hard to pinpoint one, or even a few, but as soon as I saw the thread one jumped to mind so I'll go with that; MegaPixel Studios.

You might be asking, and I had to look them up myself to actually make this post, but who the heck are they?

The ones who butchered the House of the Dead Remake. And are going to butcher the remake of the second and whatever else Sega gives them free reign to tarnish. I've loved HotD since I was a kid, so to see if so mishandled and poorly recreated is truly abhorrent. I'd rather the series continued to languish in purgatory than have this sort of fate - I've got no faith in the series ever coming back in any meaningful way after these two pieces of absolute remake sloppa shovelware.
