Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that. The physical Mandarake stores seemed like such a cool place in the late-2000s (you actually get to walk around one in Nanashi no Game), but I guess going online really is the only way they'll survive into the modern era. It's still sad, though...!

A Votoms cel, holy shit. As my pfp says, i wanted to scream (of excitement).
And indeed Takahashi is great as well, Votoms and FLAG are my favorites from him, although that will probably change once i finally get around to watching Fang Of The Sun Dougram.

I just finished finally watching Layzner; haven't checked out FLAG or Dougram yet though! I've got the Bluray of Galient on the way though!

My fav retro anime is the Record of Lodoss War OVAs from 1990. Can't remember how many times i've watched the VHS copy i had when i was a kid/teen.

I recently found out about the Ninja Gaiden movie, Ninja Ryukenden. That goes stupid. But my favorites are Ghost in the Shell, Inuyasha, and Fist of the North Star. everything else I like is past this point, and not so recent either. I feel like Anime started to drop in quality around 2016, 2017. The last recent anime I liked was Kill la Kill. And after getting older idk if I'd feel comfortable going back to that. People'd get the wrong idea man.

I literally feel the exact same way about this show. I watched it was it was originally airing and was so unbelievably impressed and in love with it, but 11 years later I'm pretty sure I'd find it completely insufferable.

I still think the show is quite badass, it's just one of those ones that has insane fan service that I hate to admit is fan service. I like the plot that it's just a random alien lifeform that took over clothing. It's very B movie-esque with cool fight scenes.

Edit: If you meant that the artwork is crude and primitive, I agree, but that takes a back seat to the engaging plot and the fantastic dubbing (in those years the voice actors of anime series in Italy were mainly theater actors! ).

Of them i'd put record of lodoss war, tekkaman blade, shadow skill, gundam wing and cyber city oedo 808 as my top 5.

I didn't see it mentioned yet, but Dirty Pair was an absurdly fun show. I rewatch an episode or two when I need some cheer.

Despite the amount of fillers I really enjoy Saint Seiya (which is, with Ulysses 31, why I am a lot into Antiquity and ancient Greek mythology).

I also really like Armor Hunter Mellowlink from '88 and Cyber City Oedo 808 from '90 if OVAs are counting.

I will say a controversial thing but I consider FMA 2003 to be better than the Brotherhood remake. And yes, this thread said that Retro meant 80's-90's but this show is over 20 years already so it's hardly modern (especially since it's still in 4:3).

Unless computer animation is what makes an anime modern but then late 90's could also get included.

I think this thread also implies Japan-made animation and not counting China/Korea/Western made show in the style of japanimation so I accept that.

WOw! there is a lot of them being mentioned here that i never heard before. some lot had been in myanimelist recommendation somehow, tho i never had it in me to check them out. but they are all looking interesting.

now an old-time anime, huh... honestly i don't have one favorite, but i'd remember i like and enjoy watching; macross (the first), samurai x, sakura wars, dragon ball (Z), pokemon, digimon, ninja hattori, p-man, doraemon, slamdunk, atashin-chi, ninja boy, minki momo, cardcaptor sakura, sailor moon, wedding peach, tokyo mew-mew, case closed, melancholy of suzumiya haruhi, patlabor, evangelion (tho as a kid back then i don't understand what happen there in the last eps, ...and i still don't), trouble chocolate, full-metal panic, tengen toppa guren lagann, kill la kill, hiatus x hiatus, one piece, gundam wings, gundam 08th, kickers (somehow, when i talk about this one, people always thought i was talkin captain tsubasa), captain tsubasa,... so think thats' all i remember dearly...
