Yakuza/Like a Dragon Megathread

My one true pick
But you're still standing here — ashendemon: 24-HOUR CINDERELLA

Big Ws for using the original version and not the stripped down Kiwami version
As for the actual topic, I am not well versed on Karaoke games besides the 2 I played for the tutorial of 0 (Baka Mitai and Judgement), so I guess Judgement

You like 3 and not 4? To each their own ig. I haven't played 5 or 6 but have played every other Yakuza. And 3 has by far been the worst for me, at least in terms of sheer gameplay. And 4 has the best story so far and was so refreshing coming from 3,
5 really shines when it comes to kyru, haruka, and akiyama. though Shinada's story feels weak so far compared to in 4.

Then let's get into more Sega stuff, come play PSO with me cmoncmon *drags him by the shirt*

Agreed on the gameplay side. The amount of blocking in 3 requiring repositioning makes a lot of the combat a chore.

4 and 5 are just far too bloated with the amount of characters I get burned out playing them, sometimes less is more. I feel 0 swapping between only two is a perfect balance and allows for a better flowing story with it personally but I get why people like them.

I liked harukas storyline, but I hated playing as Shinada.

SEGA is much more than Sonic, I'd argue Ryu ga Gotoku and Atlus studio under them has been cooking a lot more these past few years.

I just love these series, yakuza is really well made and make you feel like you are in japan.

Revisiting Kamurocho will never get old, I simply love it. There's something really beautiful regarding the way its made and how alive it feels. It's a very well designed main area and you can never get bored since there's plenty of stuff to do even when you're not focusing on the main story. The other areas are equally well designed but Kamurocho will always have a special place in my heart.

Yakuza 0 is an absolute treasure. The soundtrack is god-tier and Kiryu and MAJIMA at their finest. I love how zany this one is!

What do you guys think of the Yakuza 3 combat? it's clunky and slow to me, plus the enemies block alot, don't get me started on the chase sequences. but the story is pretty damn good

The combat gets better and youll be pulling wacky attacks by the end of the game. Its only slow at the beginning.

It's fine, I don't remember having gripes with it. and yes the story was quite good. For a "weakest" entry, I'd say it's quite fun. and the Revelations were cool!

I still prefer the PS2 Yakuza 2's combat, but Yakuza 3 is fine. The PC version of the game introduces some quirks that weren't in the PS3 version due to the increase framerate (which affects things like severely reducing quickstep's distance and messing with mini-games' physics, like with pool and bowling), so I recommend playing at 30 fps if playing on PC.

I like it just like other Yakuze series.
Maybe it's just me but the combat ain't bad, if you can figure out how the cpu works you can exploit it to your advantage.
I'll try my best to explain with words, the cpu reacts when it feels like you have put a few hits in and they still have enough frames to put up a guard, simple as that. The problem is, Kiryu's basic square strings doesn't have any property to daze/stun/guard break your opponent + the enemy's guard automatically tracks to your position, thus you're usually denied a combo after just 2 hits in.
There are some solutions here:
1. Pace your strings, lock your opponent by timing your first 2 square hit and do not continue to the 3rd string or heavy attack. In my experience it usually throws them off guard after you do this 3 times, for some bosses that likes to sidestep and counter, they'd do that instead.
2. Get behind them, put 1 hit in, step to the side, another 1 hit in, step to the side again, repeat until you get to their backs then pounce away. The guard tracking means hitting them from the sides won't work, gotta get to the back. If you like to do this one then you need to practice your dodge timing as well, once you unlock the Daruma roll technique, spamming dodge button will make you roll instead.
3. Bosses CAN be grappled here, seriously, although they usually won't do nothing for the first or second grab, they usually break it off afterwards, use it as an emergency tool.

Yeah, I'm getting the hang of it, I just wish the bosses wouldnt block so much, its even more irritating when they're ungrabbable.

Don't worry you'll get used to it. like the reply above said, the game starts out slow but its one of the best.. its one of those games where you miss it when you finish it 😭

I love Yakuza 3 to death. Top 5 ps3 games for me easily. 4 is also fantastic.

Yakuza 3 is honesty one of my favorites in the series. It starts off a bit slow but picks up as you get into it, like the other's have said.

Seriously. Give me somewhere easy to find it. I literally just wanna mod my broken shotgun. And no, if you're gonna ask me to grind through fights you're stupid.
