The Xbox next-generation system could cost significantly more than the PlayStation 6 due to the Magnus APU and the potential support of third-party stores that would deprive Microsoft of the 30% cut on every game sold on the system.

"Xbox Next May Cost Twice as Much as PlayStation 6" That's actually crazy...

I seriously wonder how there's people that are still loyal to this soulless Shitcrosoft shadow of a then good brand that doesn't get supported in a genuine way anymore, it should go full steam (kek) into the Sega route.

Does anyone even think the PS5 is dated at this point? Despite being a half decade old it still feels like the console gen just started and the PS4 is still relevant.

Why is anyone even talking about the pricing of the gen after this one?

Console prices no longer seem to be linked to the hardware specifications. Why should I pay a premium for a walled-garden gaming experience that has no advantage compared to PC gaming? PC components typically become cheaper the older they get, and the further they drift from the cutting edge competition (up until they hit that rare obsolete part niche). Consoles paradoxically raise in price because they believe the uninformed consumer is prepared to pay the asking price. I'm specifically looking at you PS5 Pro, overpriced at launch and already obsolete 2 years later.

Console gaming used to be built on a promise of a simpler, more consistent gaming experience where you didn't have to fiddle with hardware configurations and hope that the software supported your particular standard. Just plug and play. Now there's no garuntee that the console game you bought will have decent performance, or that it won't be a buggy, crashing mess and on top of that you're expected to pay an extra fee to use your own internet for multiplayer. These videogame companies have lost the thread.

It's not a matter of the PS5 being dated, it's a thing of how long it's been since release. I have to imagine that if a company launches a console, it isn't too long after that before work starts being done on shaping what the next console will be. At some point, that involves locking down what the hardware will be, so development of games can start.

Five years into the life of the PS5, I'd be shocked if they weren't already pretty deep into planning for the PS6. Same for Xbox. There's no hard and fast rule of how long it'll be between generations, but it's coming up. Even if you said "not until 2028," that will be here before you know it. Dated or not by then, the companies want a shiny new set of keys to jingle at consumers.

But on the flipside if consumers aren't ready for it the thing will flop, hard. That's what happened with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. People act like Blu-Ray won, but in reality they both lost to DVD for a decade. Blu-Ray eventually took over in sales once people were ready, but by that point we were only a couple years away from streaming taking its place.

Whether or not the console makers are ready or have it designed is, frankly, more irrelevant than I'm sure they'd like to believe. They need to time it right or it won't matter.

bluray is good for anime, but that's about it.

This is my thought too. Despite the PS5's age, it feels like it's only barely gotten off the ground at this point. Is anyone really clamoring for a PS6 at this point in time?
