We all know the situation the Xbox is in nowadays. Some say it all started during the press launch of Xbox One , that they started dooming themselves. Others say that they’re in panic mode with the release of the Steam Machine. Are they really bowing out or seeking an unlikely alliance?

I believe this is Microsoft's last chance because I don't think much more will come of it. It's a real shame how Microsoft managed to ruin this console so badly. I don't know what else can be said.

Every current PlayStation "exclusive" is, or will enviably be on PC. Steam right now is having a PlayStation sale:

Go back two-to-three years ago Playstation elitist swore that these games would never, ever be on PC.

Xbox is changing its marketing strategy to be a service provider, that's why they're pushing for Streaming content & they're testing the waters for Gamepass to be on playstation.
(The same way EA's own subscription service currently operates)
However, Xbox has always had more exclusive content than the PS5.
Thanks to hundreds of indie games and strategy titles that are also Gamepass PC/Steam.

Funny how Sony fans swear that having their exclusives be on PC "still makes them PS5 exclusive" yet when Xbox does the same?
That doesn't count. Sure buddy ::sailor-embarrassed

The second Halo: Combat Evolved remake being on the PS5 isn't as big of a deal as people think it is.
It's not some gotcha against Microsoft.

Xbox, whether you approve or not is becoming a subscription service provider who just happens to make hardware that runs said subscription.

Sony?
We have entire songs about how the PlayStation 5 has no games ::eggmanlaugh

Hardly. I think they are just moving toward the handheld market, as since there are already so many out there, the technology is in a pretty good place, so they can mass produce handheld's like the ROC Xbox consoles and hike the prices up 300%. Sony will follow suit. It's no panic mode or last gasp at trying to reclaim the console market. It's simply business.

This is of course, just another step at killing off physical games, which is almost fully here anyhow.
Almost all games are digital now, and if they get their way, along with Sony and Nintendo, even digital downloads will vanish from their landscapes, and it'll all be streaming.

VALVe's Gabebox (yes going to call it that forever) will be the last bastion of owning games along with GOG

And about Xbox exclusives on PlayStation, it'll go the other way too...
There will be PS games on Xbox as well. It's all about money in the end, and it makes more sense business wise to split profits of dying or failing franchises that are not raking in much, if any money anymore.

Can't believe Nintendo will burry Sega, Microsoft and Sony's hardware divisions.

Funny to see they winning the console wars (not by outcompeting the others, mind you, but just by being the only one left standing) whithout even engaging in the competition since the early 2000's

I recently read a news report that Sony will be extending its PSN requirement to PC for some games. I think it's about time because this PlayStation account requirement was really not right.

I believe Microsoft was turning Xbox into a Windows gaming division until Steam announced the Steam Machine. Now with all the stiff competition Microsoft has encountered in console gaming and PC gaming, their unhealthy obsession with AI and massive profits, they are radio silent and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd just pretty much extinguish their hardware division and turn Xbox into a third party publisher and cloud gaming service.

I got sick of that song the moment it came out. It was before I even got a PS5. The system does have actual games and titles that are exclusives. Don't get me wrong.I'm not making excuses for sony trying to chase the live service trend so badly and failed multiple times and needing multiple kicks in the groin to finally get it. They still have at least a good variety of games. Yotei came out great, and Tokon comes out this year with that new arcade stick exclusive to the console. They got more and a few other games coming out, this year, and next year, exclusive to the console. So they got games.

  • Wolverine
  • Phantom Blade 0
  • Saros
Sony got games for days.

As for MS, they've pretty much given up. That's really not much of a theory as it is so much facts.

Nintendo printed all the money they needed with the wii and ds, they didn't have to really compete at all after 2010

As largely Steam and GOG user, i don't care, maybe the Bloodborne fans may get hope of finally getting a PC port tho

The problem with "PlayStation 5 has games" is while it's true, it doesn't matter to people that for one reason or another don't want them. Maybe it is in a genre you don't care about, or maybe it includes or is based on elements you don't care about or activelly dislike (e. g. grinding), or maybe you dislike their online presence, and you simply ignore that game. So to you there simply aren't any games you're interested in.

PlayStation these days is for the most part is by the numbers and just plain boring. Yotei seems like a worse version of Tsushima, Tokon is Marvel VS Capcom but without Capcom and instead with Arc Systems, Spiderman 2 was a letdown and now Insomniac is looking to leave its mark on Wolverine, Saros looks like Returnal but with a guy as protagonist, ... You can't blame people for not being excited about the PS5. It's definitely not living up to past PlayStation generations.

from what i can tell, they might just want to stop making games. i've heard most of the employees at microsoft don't want to work on the games. they would rather just make some basic software for computers. it takes less effort to make a program and make updates for that than making and maintaining a video game; according to some info that i gathered from various comment sections on youtube a few years ago when one of the new xbox consoles was launching.

Yotei is not a worse version of Tsushima considering how great it's doing. Tokon isn't out yet, Arc System still has time to fix it up. Saros i have seen nothing but excitement for from most people. Spider-Man 2 I get why some people don't like, but it is what it is. We getting Wolverine, and it looks to be off the chain. Insomniac is at least doing something different.

They can be not excited or disappointed all they want, but that's why relying on outdated memes doesn't do anything nor doesn't really support their argument. Josso were clear.I'm not making excuses for any of Sony's screw ups this generation. That said, at least they are trying to fix their mistakes, and remember, people are here for the games and not lies service.

The first I've heard of this rumor but this only somewhat surprises me. I feel like the only reason the attitude is this way now, is because they laid off the people who actually want to make games and that this company suffers from poor management every single time.

The head of Sucker Punch was sacked. It doesn't seem to be doing great.
When did this happen?

Even so, nothing is set in stone. The game still sold great and they have the talent and people. You assume failure to soon. Let's wait and see what actually happens. Just because a lead person leaves, doesn't mean it's automatic doom and gloom. See Ninja Gaiden 4 with Platinum.

this was years and years ago, i think it was around the xbox one launch, but it could have been the next one after that. i don't clearly remember off the top of my head.
it seems like every game company is run by poor management at this point, considering how many bad decisions each company makes.

True, but it doesn't bode well, especially for Sucker Punch.

Until I find or see something more conrcrete, it looked like most people didn't have a problem developing games for XBox consoles. Regardless, if they were first party or not.

A lot of them AAA(A). It's exactly reason why I stick with indie or AA a majority of the time. They can have their assholes or mismanagement, but nowhere near the constant degree AAA keeps pulling off 97% of the time.

True, but it doesn't bode well.
To you. I am waiting to see what happens first, before assuming or thinking doom. I look forward to whatever project they have next. One thing at a time.

Speaking of bad management the new CEO of Big N of America is someone who knows nothing about video. Devin Pritchard was VP for sales management. She knows how to sell things I give her that but she doesn’t know a thing about the things she’s selling.
