Xbox 360 VS Playstation 3 - The console war of the 2000s

Microsoft poorly handled the whole RROD situation.
Now that is some bullshit. Microsoft went above and beyond to repair units even in third world countries they offered this service. I shipped my RROD 360 in my middle of nowhere Mexican town and I got it repaired in a month, in 2007.

if it wasn't for RROD the 360 would've obliterated Sony but Microsoft had to fumble the hardware QA.

Really? Because I’ve heard stories from people saying that they’ve sent their 360 to Microsoft for repair, and it came back to them still broken.

I was a 360 teen. Halo, Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, the XBLA. It was the best of times.

But I adore the PS3 solely for Tokyo Jungle. It as the only reason why I kept my old PS3 even to this day.
That said, almost everything else has been ported onto different hardware.
Tokyo Jungle & MGS4 Being the only two exceptions I can think of.

It's 2010 and the PS3 Has no games, It's 2025 and the PS5 Has no games.
Time is a closed loop.

I don't think the Xbox 360 was a competitor for the Playstation 3.
Seems lagit.....

I had both, and take it form a PS3 supporter and fan of the system. In the early days,

Unless your talking about architecture and power, then agreed!
Shame that no devs beyond koji pro and a few others where bothered to program properly for it, meaning every game that came out towards the start of their head to head up till 2008/09, ran better on the Xbone, well if the system didn't suffer that ring of fire!

iu

Although i made a lot fixing them till good old MS decided to change the architecture.

Fuck console wars mane, I got what my dad could buy and enjoyed the games I could afford.
For sure, FOMO and other manipulative bs has no place in the hobby, and for people with conscious and critical decision making. And it is a shame companies today rely on these manipulative tactics more and more.

When i posted that, what i meant by it, is the bad business decisions. PS3 is s symbol of arrogance for Sony, and they ate s*ht for it which caused them to course correct, and as a result we got an amazing PS4 eara imho.

On Xbone side, they corrected the issues with cheeping out on the heat sink, and as a result we got a more robust xbone one, but ultimately their success went to their head, and they wanted always on DRM for their games.

As a result we got this meme form Sony to Microsoft, which helped PS4 dominate that era of gaming..

I miss that Sony!

War? What a strange thing to go to battle for, hopefully no war crimes were committed.

At first I bought PS3 because the Xbox 360 had the red ring of death which later on PS3 had yellow light of death. I enjoyed playing online on my Xbox 360 as it gave more customizations as I remember and single player liked PS3 more even though I played Battlefield 3 on my PS3 a lot. But both systems were great and I loved them.

This was probably the last relevant console war we had in gaming.
PlayStation 4 VS Xbox One VS Wii U was a massacre.
While PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch 1/2 don't feel like they are even competing.

So Playstation 3 VS Xbox 360 is probably the last "true" console war.
Wii was there as well, but it appealed a very different market, while PS3 and X360 had the same target audience.

Most of you know the story, Playstation 3 launch was terrible and overpriced, while Xbox 360 final years with the focus on Kinect were atrocious. Both systems had high highs ans low lows.

How did you live that period? I remember having a Xbox 360, but honestly I couldn't wait to switch over to Playstation, most of my friends were there.
Seeing how nowadays the preservation for both these consoles along with Handheld consoles sorta became iconic in both having game Exclusives and full on DLC's Extras along with Add-ons to their perspective consoles .... Sadly now the digital Storefronts are closed and well Emulation is the way to go for lost in time games plus DLC'S.... I couldn't buy in time the Remaining DLC'S to Xbox 360 Dance dance revolution Universe... Didn't even know they had DLC'S... Even bought the mat controller for it
Not to mention Wii / wii-u had original experience to their own Exclusive games (:

tetris revolution on PSP and PS3 was an unforgettable experience to what is now Tetris 99 /Connected effect?

I had both consoles but my close friend had an Xbox 360 so I ended up playing it with her instead. We spent hours on GTA 5 as well as Black Ops 2 even though I wasn't very good at Black Ops 2. I have some fond memories from that time.
The only thing that I can say from experience was that whenever I played online during those lobby calls was that if I had a working no background noise Mic headset or those kickas throat communicators that was for Black ops 2 /gears of war ? And not the crappy Original mic set that never usually works xD

I had both but I actually played the PSP and DS a lot more that generation.
I still believe if I compared titles like Tetris games on either handheld devices on the go was what made boring Field trips/ road rides with family less boring (':
In a way it actually made me get more closer to my late grandmother who liked playing Tetris on the GameBoyColor so in a way that generation is purely magical c':

I had whatever I had as a kid, Sometimes it was the Wii, the PS3, or the 360. I think now looking back, and with more experience with the consoles, the PS3 is my favorite. I think it had the most experimentation going on because Sony was more open to Japanese stuff with it being a Japanese console, so we got more interesting stuff there.

But the 360 was cool early on with all of the PC Ports it got. Quake 4 was a launch title for it, which is crazy to me. Xbox was really big with shooters. Most games that were first party ended up being shooters, and Call of Duty wouldn't be as big if they didn't lock that deal with Microsoft for COD2 to be exclusive. It really paved the way for shooters going casual. And it had Halo and Gears so of course I love it.

I feel like that was the last generation that had real crazy experimentation going on. Even the Wii had crazy stuff like how big Brawl was as a cultural phenomenon, and it had MadWorld and No More Heroes. And arguably the best port of Resident Evil 4. All three were great.

because Sony was more open to Japanese stuff with it being a Japanese console
not at all, Sony doubled down on their western developers and western IPs for the entire generation, they even denied Demon Souls publishing in North America and Atlus had to do it.

They only had Japanese games because of brand loyalty.
The 360 had way more Japanese games at the beginning it was ridiculous.

I can see that I suppose. I noticed a lot of the earlier Warriors games had 360 ports but not PS3 ports. Funny you mention it, I bought a demo disc for the 360 recently, because one of the DLC's for Oblivion is unobtainable since the store closure, and it had a hidden demo of Zegapain NOT. Never heard of Zegapain until I got this disc, and found out the game never had a western release, so why it's on a demo disc with Call of Duty 3, and Superman Returns idk.

Xbox 360 won the first half of the generation and PS3 won the second half when it started to pump out insane exclusives IMO.

Also, can we admire how cool the XMB and the short lived Blades Dashboard was.View attachment 75304View attachment 75305
The original xbox 360 menu is arguable the best imho, and i know that will be unpopular. But this original menu had everything needed, with much less bloat. Also, it kind of reminded me of the dreamcast in how clean it was.

You know, I never understood the whole "this vs. that" system console war thing. It just never made sense to me. And I'm going to date myself here, but I grew up during the NES vs. Sega console war.
Even as a kid, I didn't see a point in it, but I was a weird kid who was happy with the console he had. <No, I'm not telling which>

I lost many soldiers on the playground in the great Sonic vs. Mario fights. Both systems had their ups and downs. Some had exclusive titles, remember when those were a thing?
But no, both had pros and cons. Neither system was perfect. I had a 360 and was happy with it. Friends of mine had a PS3. Did I want one? Of course. Did I start bashing Sony because I didn’t? No, I just happily played my 360 and enjoyed it.

Though I suppose it’s a moot point now. Mostly all consoles are garbage. Nothing is better than the other not that it ever really was.

Besides, we all know the correct answer is, PC Master Race.

...goblins...

I owned a 360 later in its life, and have only picked up a PS3 a few years ago to play some of its exclusives. I like both systems.

The 360 gave me some great memories playing COD Black Ops II and Halo with my friends, which made it a multiplayer machine. Indie games like CastleMinerZ and XBL Arcade no doubt helped in that regard, as well.

The PS3 has given me more recent enjoyment playing Demon's Souls and the Ratchet and Clank Collection, so I've been using it for the system's well-made single player games and remasters.

Im all for the Xbox 360 .
While the Ps3 had more great niche games that i was interested in , the 360 provided me still with games that are to this day for the best of the best .

Gears of War 1-3
Halo 3 & Reach
Bullet Witch
Dead Rising 1 & 2
Crackdown ( not so fond of it but still cool)
Tenchu Z
Ninja Gaiden 2
DOA 4
Rumble Roses XX

And alot of Xbox live arcade games .

What a cool console . Only the Online-membership was really annoying to play online .

Another vote for Green Team here

I bought both the online on my 360 seemed better compare to Sony but I had more friends on PS3 and we had great team playing Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops Zombies! I was playing on both mostly and enjoyed it.

i have never owned an xbox console, and know very few who have
given my love for the playstation and playstation 2, and the existence of games like demons souls and metal gear solid 4, i knew that i simply had to get a playstation 3
it was wonderful, and then the lights became yellow and the console would never turn on
so i sent it in for repair and all was well
then a year and a half later the lights grew yellow again and at that point i never replaced it
i have heard the words of many fine burgers of cheesie origin that my fat model playstation 3 was prone to that sort of thing, regardless, at that time i transitioned to computer game playing as my main method of entertainment for game play
around a decade after 2014 i bought a playstation 3 slim model that was so cheap that it might as well been free, and it has worked wonderfully, i have it next to my playstation 2 and between those two i have the libraries of the first three sony consoles at my leisure
