As the title above says, would you want to own a robot that does chores for you? The idea for this topic is mainly based around me watching some anime with maid robots, such as Mu from To Heart and also Mina from the My Wife Has No Emotions anime.

I think it might be ok to own a robot that does chores for you, but it might get boring not being able to do the chores on your own, specially if you're someone that enjoys doing daily chores.

House cleaning for sure...I have a phobia of dust, so I would need one as humanoid as possible to perform these tasks with extreme precision...to make matters worse there are my two cats who need to be carefully brushed quite frequently, but I wouldn't leave this task to a robot for anything in the world!👺

Yes... but no... but yes.
I recall being told a cautionary tale bout a Roomba and a dog with loose stools 😐💩🐶

So it ll depends on how advanced the bot is. 🤔
Like, if it's gonna inadvertently make more of a mess then nah, lol

Isn't that the route we're going? I think about this, as I cook all my meals and wash all my dishes by hand. Would I utilize something if I knew it could cook my meals or (actually) wash my dishes? Eh. Idk. I'm old school. But it's a fun thing to think about.

I guess in actuality it's probably just another way for corporations to fuck people over, impose subscription services, and expensive maintenance. Which I've seen in our own car. Our older one, we fixed many things by hand. But got wrecked because of an assholasaurus rex. We got a new one, and there really isn't much of anything we can do to fix this car. It's all gotta be done via a mechanic/technician. And it stinks to loose that.

p.s. - I guess I'll also add that I think a part of growing up is just coming to terms with the fact that there are x-things you must do in order to live a certain quality of life. And unless you're paying someone to do it, it's best to figure out how to get that. So like, say you're depressed and it's hard for you to do the dishes. Figure out how to keep them to a minimum. That kinda stuff. So you're not bogged down with "things/chores" while still living within your space.

Certain aspects of cleaning can be therapeutic for me. Its always a rewarding feeling afterwards when you see your place tidy and free of dust/grime! That said, there are some aspects of cleaning I do not care for (bathtub/toilet, garage and unfinished areas). More importantly, I predict that when Father Time starts to punish my body for attempting to stay limber, I will likely have to rely on a robot to maintain things for me.

To go even further on that, I have made the choice to live a child-free life, so I have no potential on relying on offspring to assist me when I'm older. I will be at the mercy of my 401K and robot helpers at that point 😆

Initially, the idea of having a robot cleaning for you sounds cool, but I feel like you need that little bit of movement from doing chores to keep yourself from being completely sedentary. Doing chores can also help you feel like you've achieved something once you finish! So, I guess my answer would be "no".

It may also just be because I have a fear of things potentially going wrong and the robot malfunctioning and harming me.. :'))

Probably not.

I have a pretty hectic life and, most of the time, I don't ever feel like cleaning the house, but I think we are encouraging lazy habits enough already.

Plus, I would be creeped out by the sight of a robot roaming the house.

I'm a very lazy guy. I don't like cleaning, it consumes a lot of time for me and it pisses me off that it has to be done regularly so i would love to have a robot that does the chores for me. It doesn't have to be all the chores, it doesn't need to do them all the time, i can take care of washing clothes and cooking but cleaning is something that i prefer for someone else to do.

The only problem would be maintenance and that stuff that @guppy mentions

I knew a guy who dropped out of a top-ranking university and ended up just sweeping floors at a factory and he was so much happier than he ever was prior.

On the retirement plan I keep thinking that there's going to be some odd combo of like Roujin-Z/2064/I Have No Mouth going on. But really I think it shows you what a coin toss everything is. I talked to someone ten years my senior and they said point blank they believe we're some of the last generations. And this is a human teaching humanities. So I don't know. It's all up in the air.

Both my wife and I ware neurodivergent so getting any help we can get to keep our home in order would be greatly appreciated. Having a full time job makes it difficult to take care of the apartment while also having enough energy to life a meaningful life.

It may seem overkill to some but I bought a robot vacuum for my apartment and absolutely love it. If I plan to head out somewhere, I'll start up my robot before leaving. When I get back I am greeted to rows of clean carpet lines you see whenever a vacuum goes over it. Its very satisfying. I highly recommend one if its within your budget.

We're moving to a bigger place next year and I'm considering getting one if it looks like it could get around without getting blocked by furniture. It's also a big gamble since we have a dog who hates vacuums so she might just bark every time it starts moving lol

I could really use some help cleaning my room...i am messy cat, nyo!
