Do a test trial period. If it becomes a negative, you can always shut the market down quickly.

Also, I will throw this idea out here and one I think should be implemented. Lock it behind a certain lvl. So a lvl 1 newbie user cannot just create an account just to sell. People need to get to know them better. Whether it be LVL 3, 4 or more, that's up to ya'll.

I did have experience managing forum marketplace twice before and thankfully it went well, its just extremely hard and complicated,
In addition to all the other good points brought up, that is my concern. I have no experience, but I can see it becoming a headache for staff and eating up a lot of their time: increased vetting for bots trying to reputation farm, handling dms from users complaining about bad experiences, providing a platform for users to learn private information about each other could then lead to doxxing/drama then you have to deal with that etc.

Despite trying to make it as "hands off" as possible for staff, I still foresee it taking lots of their time for something that I don't think a majority here would use >_>

That was part of the plan, yeah.

I Agree with the No's, as said.
To much unwanted/Scammers/"Nah it was like that" BS.
And Scammers are everywhere. but yeah i Doubt it would pan out in the End.

Scammers/Dishonest people upon getting a Wiff of money to be made would Flock here, Hike the price <As if retro stuff isn't outrageous as is>
And nothing to Stop some unscrupulous person, upon seeing how much someone wanted something,
To just lie, or make a Alt account and say "I Have a higher offer from XYZ User, you wanna offer more?"

People pull that bs all the time on Ebay with auctions <tho not as bad as it once was>

I'm sure there is a Way to do it Correctly, but i Don't think RGT Needs it.
It wouldn't Benefit the Site, and in fact would probably Hinder/Hurt it.

And if someone got Ripped off, they would most likely get mad, and leave the site.
It happens.

There's no way this will work without mod intervention. I've participated in Game Swap/Game Sale subreddits and both the mods and the community are heavily involved in policing the place against scammers. It is far too easy for someone to ask for payment and disappear from the internet for that to work. And even without scammers, there are inevitable disputes when things arrive over the mail and the package is damaged or not what was promised.

Edit: if you want to get an idea of what it requires for a community like this to work check out:

it's a flawed idea, though i have the worry it could attract some negative attention to the site, i'd rather not turn this into a marketplace, but i enjoy the idea of like-minded people trading things like somebody said before me, though im sure im reiterating on what people have said already.

I think it could work if a lot of effort and care went into it, but the odds are unlikely and it risks a lot of what this place is

No. Retro marketplaces get real scammy real quick. It'll also turn the eyes of the NinteNinjas on top of you like a ton of kunai packed with explosive tags made of legal filings if there's even a scent that this site is making any sort of income while offering links to ROMs. Doesn't matter if you are or not, and you know this.

And think about it. Like @What's His Face Said.
Say it did work somehow.

You know all it would take is one Dumbass Facebook/Reddit/Tic tok toe/ect post, by someone with a decent Following saying
"Hey this site has Retro sales, at good prices, and they Host XYZ files to, For free"

and in a few days, it would be like a Zombie Virus, spreading like wildfire...
And you Know.. People would blather on about it, for Clout... Points... Sprinkles... or whatever it is they farm

Then *The /\/i/\/te/\/do Ninja Lawyers, have entered the Chat*

I do ps2 controller repair and wouldn't be against selling things like that or modded OEM sata network adapters.

We already have pushing it being a retrorom giveaway site, i think that would be the final nail in the coffin, also all our efforts hiding will go to waste since we would need to go public

I have a few things I'd like to get rid of for fair prices. But I only want them going to people who actually want to play and enjoy them. I'd be afraid that a marketplace would attract reseller scum accounts to join. So I'm rather against it on that principle. I'd only be ok with it if it could be a fair exchange between honest parties. But I just don't like the risk ratio.

On paper, It sounds like a good idea, but in execution...
Yeah, I voted no.
It could attract unwanted attention.

I'd also say no to a marketplace, even if it were executed perfectly and without spam and the other issues people have brought up.

Personally, I believe marketplaces being tacked onto every site that I use is incredibly tiring. Feels like I'm drownin' in places to buy 'n' sell things! I enjoy the absence of a market, it's refreshing.

Sounds like a terrible idea to me.
