It's normal to expect a second game was better, but sometimes the result is disappointed or even worse, so let's talk about the worst second parts of video games. These Are mine.

Darksiders 2
I consider the first Darksiders a very good game, but as first game of its franchise, it had many thing to improve. Draksiders 2 didn't improve anything and in some aspects it's worse.

Devil May Cry 2
I think it's not necessary to explain why.

Saw 2 Flesh and Blood
First saw game was bad, but I liked it's atmosphere, then I played the sequel and It was even worse.

Remothered Broken Porcelain
I dont think this one is bad, I like the conclusion of the story, but as a horror game is not as good as its prequel.

Amnesia a Machine for Pigs
Almost same case. Good story, but in this case I consider it a bad horror game, specially compared to the first game.

I'm gonna be literal here and say the second half of Marvel's Spider-Man 2

First half was p ok even if it had it's rough spots but the SECOND the stupid-ass "SYmbiOtE invASioN" starts the game becomes a boring unfun broken mess with god-awful writing to the point it makes Spider-Man 3 on the 360 look like Arkham City in comparison. Literally the only part of it I actually had fun with was the Mary Jane segment where you blast Symbiotes into nothing like Contra enemies, it was one of the few parts of the entire trilogythat actually embraced classic arcadey fun and wasn't trying to be an interactive spider-man movie with 5 hours of boring unfun real-time cutscenes lol.

So glad Marvel is getting back into making actually FUN and simple games again with Cosmic Invasion, Tokon Souls and Rivals, I am SO goddamn sick of EVERY superhero game nowadays needing to be this overly cinematic open world 4k rtx sim that takes 100 hours to beat, IDC HOW good the webswinging feels. Just cause Batman did it well doesn't mean every other guy/gal in tights should follow in his footsteps🙄

I don't think they are bad games but compared to the previous or next game they are too far behind for my taste:

Super Mario Bros 2.

Silent Hill 2.

Fatal Frame II.
Fatal Frame 2 is genuinely so close to being a banger but they fumbled the ghost designs so hard that it kinda ruins the whole atmosphere IMO.

I don't know if it's considered a 2 but Chrono Cross is a pretty convoluted mess imo

Easiest answer of my life. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Ohhhh boy was this a travesty. Why even make a sequel to an 80 hour RPG that wraps up in such a satisfying way? Then on top of that you're stuck with a bunch of lame new characters to really hammer home how unnecessary this whole thing is. And when you DO interact with the original cast the writers saw fit to butcher their personalities. It takes everything good about Symphonia and drags it through the mud. Avoid like the plague if you loved the original.

A few others:

Metroid 2 is too claustrophic. AM2R proves it could have been a decent game if not shackled to the Gameboy's tiny screen.
Banjo Tooie was too ambitious for its own good. Massively expanding the levels turned the game into a chore for me.

perhaps Alundra? i remember i was disappointed from the 2D changed to 3D in first;
the first is still a milestone to me, fabulous game

also Blood Omen 2

Fatal Frame II.
I finished Fatal Frame a few months ago and now, I'm about halfway into the sequel. Lately, I've been plagued with the sinking feeling that the beginning sequence was the better part of the game. I'm worried that I'm judging it too harshly but seeing your comment made me think that perhaps there is some validity to my feelings.

What makes the first game stand out to me is the strictly enforced item scarcity. The first few nights weren't so bad and I think it lulled me into a false sense of security, so I ended up being too generous with the healing items. As a result, the later nights were rather nightmarish and I was getting back-to-back game-overs during difficult ghost encounters. As frustrating as that got at times, I do appreciate how much it made me feel like I was in a dangerous, high-stakes situation and that my decisions ultimately mattered.

Silent Hill 2.
I'm really curious about your thoughts on this! I don't run into many people who aren't circle-jerking this game into the stratosphere; it's nice to see a differing opinion ::terriermon-happy
