Worst RPG Character Names

I feel like every RPG I play has some silly as hell names in it. I tries to search for a thread for this topic and didn't see it. So I thought I'd get one going to see what names took you out of the game lol.

For me there's Edge Maverick, Chadly, and Dart, among others lol. Exdeath is a pretty silly one too.

Along those lines there's Teta from FFT (Renamed Tietra in the newer versions of the game)

It was actually supposed to be Teeta, so phonetically in Spanish it would be something like Tita (an actual Spanish name, coincidentally enough)

Similarly, I would theorize that Bergas was supposed to be something like Vargas, but due to the phonetical ambiguities of the Japanese language it became Bergas.

You're probably right on the money. I know that Galsia from Streets of Rage was originally supposed to be Garcia but as you said, phonetics.

My nomination for the worst RPG character name is Zidane. There's nothing wrong with the name per se but whenever I see it pop up on my screen I can't help but think of Zinedine Zidane, the French footballer. Takes me out of the experience immediately.

The guy happened to be the reigning World and Europe champion and was considered one of the best players on the planet around the time FFIX came out. I have no idea what Square were thinking.

Rogue Galaxy has Jupis. It fits best lizard alien caffeine gremlin, but really? That's what you name him? At least it wasn't Eugene.

Krile from Final Fantast 5. I looked it up and in Japanese it was Kururu, like the fairy puppet sidekick in Rhapsody. I can see how it got mangled. But it does not look right. Why not go with Kira or Kiri, Kalli or something like that instead? I don't even know how I'm supposed to pronounce it. Poor kid.

Star Ocean series is probably a goldmine for these. Fayt Leingod is pretty bad, so is Maria Traydor (sounds too much like Traitor), Welch Vineyard at least is cute but silly.

But in all seriouness, the name it self isn't that bad. It just sounds like they where way too hard to sound cool but the character itself is kinda of a dork

Raja, from Phantasy Star IV, it might not sound too bad for english speakers, but in some spanish dialects his name literally means "Ass"

Always thought Shulk was a pretty wacky name for a JRPG protagonist, but I don't know that anything will ever beat one of my favorite Atelier Rorona characters, Esty Dee.

Was it a tongue-in-cheek joke or Japanese devs being oblivious to English, who can say? But for a character named STD she (fittingly?) sure packs a punch.

From blobs being called "Spencer A" to characters named by dumping random crap on the keyboard.
