Worst Final Bosses in Video Games.

I'm surprised it hasn't been, but anyone who mentions Yu Yevon isn't getting the point: you're not fighting a god or demon, you're helping a broken, mindless creature die.

It's not a battle, it's a mercy killing.
Yu Yevon. He's just a tick who constantly heals himself. The only way to kill him is to cast Zombie on him Cast Reflect on Him and Have Yuna Cast Life on Him and He'll go down like a wet noodle.

i'm pretty sure with maxed out strength, he will go down in one hit. his hp is 99,999. but if you have the power level to do that, then not much poses a threat at that point.

What are some of the worst Final Bosses you have ever faced in a game, be they extemely hard, disappointing or just plain annoying?
For me it's:
Jasper Batt Jr's second phase, I don't think i ever faced or will face a more annoying boss fight in my life. What the fuck were the developers at Grasshopper thinking when they gave him a attack that instakills Travis if he's standing at the wrong side of the room and also upgrade that attack when his health gets low so that you now have to dodge 3 extremely fucking fast attacks instead of only one so if you get hit even once while you are standing on the other half of the room you lose all of your fucking progress and have to re-do the whole fucking fight again, also making him able to fucking stunlock the player with his combos if he knocks you down even once was just the cherry on top of the shit Sundae that was this boss fight. And before someone says that the final boss was bad on purpose to illustrate that revenge is pointless, i can buy that when you are talking about his first and third phases but the second phase just felt like it wasn't playtested for more than 15 minutes instead of it being a big statement about vengeance.
was about to come in here and say the nmh2 final boss was a massive disappointment bc its the most recent final boss that kind of sucked for me in recent memory (i beat nmh2 like a week ago) but that was the first post here ??

The final boss of uncharted 1 IS A GODDAMN QTE

After uncharted 2 kept getting 10 out of 10 everywhere I played 1 to see what the fuss was all about

I hated it, boring story and characters boring shooting boring enviroments forgettable music

Then as a final middle finger the final boss is a bunch of regular dudes with laser sight shotguns followed by A QTE with the main baddie who was so bland I dont even remember his name
How tf did playstation endorse this

He literally just stands there. And ONE hit will kill him guaranteed. The game does count him as a boss, though.
I can respect their commitment to lore accuracy at least, really what could The Leader do to the Hulk when he's right in front of him?

Still a better version of the Leader than Brave New World. I'll see myself out.

What an absolutely lackluster finale to a brilliant game. I'm sure you CAN die to it, but... how?
That's one of the ways the remake really dropped the ball unfortunately. I love the buildup to it with Isaac finally just saying "FUCK this" but then the fight is just meh right after, kinda deflates it.

The final boss(es) of Shin Megami Tensei IV. Either of them. Not because they’re hard, but because when you get to them they’re overwhelmingly pitiful.

SMT IV is a game I like a lot, especially aesthetically, but it has some truly baffling gameplay choices. One of these is that the difficult is very top heavy. The intro area and first two bosses can be colossal pains in the ass, and after that things are MUCH more manageable. You’ll occasionally have a difficult boss fight, but nothing as bad as those first two.

Then you get to the final bosses, and they just don’t have anything to challenge you. You’re heavily stocked with tools that easily grind them down, and while the bosses have unique moves, none of them are likely to be that dangerous to you. They’re opponents that should be grueling to fight, but chances are you curb stomp them.

I think this is a problem.shared by many JRPG's, especially those that allow you to access "post-game" content prior to beating the final boss. I don't envy the designers though - How do you make a boss that poses a challenge to a level ~50 party as well a level 99 party?

Also, being the old head I am, my first guess as to why the game's difficulty is front-loaded is to discourage rental only purchases, but I guess that ain't much of a thing any more. ?
Another reason may be to extend SMT's legacy of being more on the difficult side for new and returning players first picking it up ("How much harder can it get?!")

I think it can be shared by other JRPGs, but I think IV is particularly egregious in just how easily you can trivialize its final fights, and that you can do so easily even without maxing level. While I think SMT’s difficulty gets overstated, I think 4 really does have some bad balancing issues that are more apparent than in other games in the franchise.

Well put!

Yeah, but it'd be great to have had like some kind of actual... fight. Like at least give him henchmen or some kind of "device/machine" to fight with or... something.

Nega Wisp Armor. Press A to win while a final boss theme it doesn't deserve blares in the background
Eggrobo (Wii U Lost World). Press A to win while a final boss theme it doesn't deserve blares in the background
Mega Death Egg Robot. Press A to win while a final boss theme it doesn't deserve blares in the background
That D-Pad machine from Sonic CD. Press A to win while a- wait a fucking second

Diantha from Pokemon X/Y, I already don't think those are hard games but that was embarassing
Kalos where most trainers only had half a team

All Wily Capsule boss fights in the Classic Mega Man. Annoying AND samey.
I was gonna disagree till I realised you said capsules and was like nvm, that's true. They make the Wily Machines so creative and then the capsules...::cirnoshrug
Thank Light that Mega Man 1 and 3 lack one

Also what the actual fuck is Mega Man 8's Wily Capsule theme lmao

I assumed the lore reason is because Wily's broke after making all those robot masters.
Nah it's gotta be those Wily Machines. Extravagant as fuck, they gotta be expensive.

Wily on his way to shell out 20 grand to make a machine that gets decimated by one of the 8 Robot Masters he happens to make/control
(also you're gonna inevitably ask about the one with the scythe and chainsaw, that's Wily Machine a, which apparently originates from Rockman Strategy. I just learned about it too)

Shodan from System Shock 2, she is constantly berating you verbally and overpraising herself from the beginning to the end. But lets just say that the last showdown is quite disapointing with the player defeating her by hacking some consoles.

I really wish Sonic CD didn't have shit tier bosses cause wtf is that lineup

Shield walker thing that can be cheesed by going behind it
Sonic Spinball but way easier
This boss fight ends by simply surviving on air bubbles
A treadmill
This boss was actually decent and used the level's gimmicks in a fun way
Metal Sonic
a D-Pad ?

Atleast the JP boss and final boss and Stardust speedway themes were a banger

Stardust speedway
US Stardust Speedway doesn't get enough love tbh. They literally made a Good Future theme meant to actually fit the race with Metal Sonic and people just shrug it off cause it wasn't in the OG soundtrack :(

you have to get through 2 boss fights without taking even a single hit.
Silver Sonic is actually so cheesable it's funny. You can spin dash in the corner as he goes through his initial animations to take a huge chunk off of him and win easily

Every Final Sonic boss before 3 is kind of bad.
Also speaking of Sonic 3, they literally made the perfect final boss...and then removed it completely in the full game, which sucks. Don't no one gaf about the "Beam Machine" ?
Apparently it's not the Beam Machine, but the Egg Rocket, which is weird cause Wacky Workbench also has an Egg Rocket and there's also Egg Rocket Zone-
