Yeah, Undertale for sure.
I actually really enjoyed playing Undertale. The quirky characters were fun, and the mini-bullet-hell (whatever you want to call it) combat was interesting. The non-violent (or ultra violent?) gimmick was fine.
But then the fandom came in and just shit up everything. Just absolutely shit the place up. It was insufferable. So much so that I've had no desire to play DeltaRune.
I like it too, I also layed chap 1 of deltarune and I enjoyed it
It's just the amount of jerking off the game got from both journos and kid youtube channels I never agreed with. You should go and read it, it's ridicoulus. They all read like this game is the messiah and before games were too stupid to reach its brilliance, just because it had a meta-story
Also I think half of its fans are kids/teens who never played an rpg before, same crowd that watches fnaf world videos.
And I thought the battle system was very neat but it doesnt get pushed that much, only the two genocide fights were pushing the player and the others were just gimmicky; they're entertaining the first one or two times but after that, eh. And to get to those good fights you gotta slog through genocide..
Yeah theres the "hard mode" but it's little more than a jokey easter egg.
Maybe it'll be better in the other deltarune chapters..
I get the grinding is made to be boring, but it's boring for what? To make the point that killing is bad and kill lots of stuff in rpgs? At least make the enemy encounter faster, I dont need to slog through intentionally boring grinding to get that
The idea that you gotta get bored of the main game so you eventually start doing bad stuff is fine, it's like groundhog day, but does it really have to be That long? I only did genocide once because getting through the same puzzles and maps over and over, with no run button, was just dull.
Yeah it's cool turning grinding into a horror thing, where you're the monster, but aside from like 3 deaths and a jumpscare the game really doesnt go that far
And like the characters are fun, but like 5 milion views plot explanation changed-my-life fun? Nah
How to make easy views in 2015: make an Undertale fan cover
That too by the way, I liked the music, I even own a bunch of ost cover cds, but like *One of the best in gaming history orchestral symphony cover for the 10th anniversary*? Nah
Also why cant you kill Alphys? Cause she's defenseless? I wanna play as the bad guy damn it!

But who came up with the G*nocide one? It's not even fun.
Also to be honest deconstructing RPGs were there before that game and you could converse with monsters as far back as Megami Tensei.
I wish more UT/DR players at least tried Earthbound.
That one is so stupid
Everyone acted like Und was this never before seen concept, the most original thing ever that marks a new era in the ultra megaverse; I beat digital devil story Megami Tensei 2 on the famicom and it was way cooler to side with the demons there! And that was in like 1989/90
It's not really Toby fox's fault, he was always open about Und being a bunch of stuff he likes put together, the battle screen even has the same little monster icons Megami Tensei 2 had
