Winlator is an Android application that lets you to run Windows (x86_64) applications with Wine and Box86/Box64.

How good does the device have to be for this? And on which Android operating system does it run? I have been looking for a decent app that brings Windows to Android devices for ages, there were always some problems something always didn't work.
I'm sure the android device has to have top notch specs in order to play specific games.
For example @ https://www.youtube.com/@brunodev85

According to what I found Android 7 seems to be the absolute minimum. If you want all of Winlator's functions then it's Android 9 and up.

As for games, I found a compatibility list here. Not sure how useful it is since by the looks of it people contributing to it use high-end devices but it's something at least.

Well, the project is open source, and hosted on GitHub, so its code is publicly available for review.
It's quite possible that those flags are due to nature of it... being an OS emulator needs using all sort of tricks and features, which can easily trigger antivirus flags... but still it's always good to be aware of risks.

Wait wait wait WAIT.

Don't use it if it gives something with the scanning.
There was drama with Winlator because of a Windows virus on a companion test app that came with it.
It was supposedly confirmed.

The dev explained he didn't knew because that app was from another open source project he used with Winlator.
Then after the drama, dropped everything, and after sometime he seemingly came back.
I hope the problem with viruses doesn't continue.

And being open source or FOSS (or for Linux) doesn't make something automatically safe, or easy to analyse the code.

Espere, espere, espere, ESPERE.

I don't really know since I don't use it.
Apparently Winlator is just a customized compilation of other apps to easily run the games on Android.

This is from Winlator's page on Github:

Credits and Third-party apps

Winlator seems legit, since it's just using mostly free software and is giving credit to authors of other software.
I just hope this time the dev is more careful with the software he trusted to include.
It could happen to him like any of us I wanna think.
