Windows10 & Steam

Steam usually drop support for 2 versions of Windows at the same time, Win10 and 11 will probably go down together

Hate win10 so so much
i don't like how it looks and how hidden settings are, bloat and surveillance. my last favorite Windows was Win7. like, i don't hate *hate* Win10, but i don't like it. so i guess i understand you.
thing stopping me from doing it right now is my main art software
yep, this too. also, gamedev, even if indie. i could, of course, work with legacy versions without testing it on new ones... but *uh*...

I don’t want to give up Windows 10 just yet, especially because some older games I bought on Steam have known issues (although they are fixable). Has anyone here had any direct experience with 0patch? I read about the ESU program that will cover the old OS for up to three more years, but it seems like a rather costly solution…

Been running Arch linux full time since 2 years or so ago, and meddling with dual boots an in secondary systems since 2017, so no need to change anything on my side.
Had a shitty w10 update that nuked important files, changed and didn't look back, best decision of my life, now i have an OS that works with and for me, instead of me being a chained dog subject to the whims of the microsoft overlords.

I agree with that. Hell, even in its final days, Win 10 is still a little rough around the edges. If it were up to me, I'd never stop using Windows 10, but it is what it is. Hopefully the fact that we're still years away from Steam support ending on Win10 might get Microsoft to get their shit together with Win11. (In my case, my PC is pretty old and can't run Win 11. But I plan on upgrading soon.)
Or if Microsoft wants to force us more, they could try to make Chromium to drop Windows 10 support (since they have a hand there too since the new Edge), which in turn will make Steam drop support since they use Chrome Framework for their app and drop support when they do or something like that.

my windows 10 disk is only for fortnite which is on the epic games store
open mandriva is what i use for steam games

there is one difference which is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE they moved the volume hud from top left where it didn't bother anybody to middle bottom right in front of my anime subtitles

(also not having updates on 10 will be an upside for me)
The sound volume hud of Windows 10 annoys me and now is worse!?
Perhaps we could change it or mod it?

you can't. They stopped supporting anything below 10 a year ago. Valve said it was because elements of the program would stop supporting old versions of Windows so it was outside of their control.

I've thought on upgrading to 11 but I haven't really seen anything interesting being said about it other than UI changes, on the other hand, I don't really like the idea of having to rush to another OS because Win 10 has a deadline.
I didn't try but I think there's still people in Windows 7 using it, just that if something breaks or does not work Steam will not take responsibility (their support is not that good though).
