Sony will stop releasing new games in physical format starting in 2028. It's a decision that's causing a lot of backlash, and I completely understand why so many players are upset.
That said, I think that even if Sony hadn't made this move, Microsoft or even Nintendo would probably have gone in the same direction sooner or later. The entire gaming industry is moving more and more toward digital distribution.
Nintendo has already introduced Game-Key Cards on the Switch 2. It's not the end of physical media yet, but it is another step toward a more digital future. To me, this shows that the whole industry is gradually heading in that direction.
