just how they have been destroying the emulation scene extra hard recently, more than usual
also the palworld lawsuit is extremely petty, im just done supporting them at this point
as someone who has been buying their systems since gba and gamecube, i dont like them enough to support them anymore (though i will gladly yarr their games~)
You might as well not buy from any other platform maker either. Sony and Microsoft are just more quiet about it. Microsoft will sue the pants off of anyone making Xbox products on Etsy for example. Anything with the Xbox logo or name people get a DMCA strike. I'm talking about 3D-printed controller holders and signs and shit. They also don't allow third party companies to make wireless controllers. It's been that way since the Xbox 360 days. They also constantly change their wireless protocol whenever a USB adapter comes out to bypass this.
I love the Switch, and while I'm more of a Sony guy, I have 180 or so physical Switch games. The Palworld lawsuit is stupid, sure, but it was inevitable. The emulation thing was on the Yuzu makers. They didn't follow the unwritten code that everyone has been following for two decades now, and they did things like write full-on tutorials on how to emulate Tears of the Kingdom, showed video footage, and tweeted and bragged that it runs better than on real hardware. You just don't do these things. You always discourage pirating in the public eye to keep lawyers off of you. They essentially handed Nintendo the lawsuit with open arms. I don't feel sorry for them one bit. The Dolphin team was stupid for putting it on the Steam store. You just don't do that. It's not staying quiet and discouraging the public from pirating.
All three companies are responsible for not preserving games. Microsoft stopped backwards compatibility twice. With the Xbox 360 they said it's up to third party developers to pitch in and help with their games which we all knew wouldn't happen. Xbox 360 emulation was even more limited. Sony just flat out stopped supporting their library when the PS3 launch systems were getting fried. Sadly, due to the architecture of the PS2 and PS3 they are hard to emulate and not worth Sony's time or money. They just plain waited to long. The only system that got full emulation from them was the PS1 thanks to the PSP.
For me, it's the refusal to give gamers what they really want. They won't release GameCube games on NSO. NSO itself is predatory and stupid. Why do we need to pay to have our saves backed up? I only subscribe because of this feature, and my family plays online a lot. I hated paying insane prices for emulated games on the Wii shop and eShop. Your license also never transferred over in any way. Let's also mention the fact that they refuse to revamp or change the Switch UI which is awful. There are no themes or any customization options of any kind, and they refuse to reduce prices on hardware and games. Games that have been out since launch are still $60. This is an inherent Nintendo thing and always has been, and I hate it.
What I'm saying is there's a lot more to hate Nintendo for that they can change and can make their user experience better and just refuse to. What about the Joy Con drifting disaster? That was never fully fixed or changed. I think getting mad at them for things they are legally allowed to sue for is kind of lame when there's more to get after them for that they are doing on purpose or just plain ignoring because they can.
