So, this is a game I’ve gotten to form very special memories with over the past year. I’ve just been watching my friend play it when he comes over. He sits down at my TV and we just grind Punch Out for hours. It’s such a pure game too. Filtered down to the pure most appealing parts of games: gameplay, music, and charming presentation. My only complaint is that it came too late in the system’s life, being around 2010.

Anybody else love this funky game? It’s a good one from the Wii, for sure. And tragic that it’s never been followed up, since I definitely think it could rock with the Joy-Cons.

i saw matt and pat from the two best friends play youtube channel play this. they lost their shit at donkey kong showing up. it was hilarious.

Man this game ROCKED!
I think I rage quit on Aran Ryan more times than I can count when I was a kid.
Was actually thinking of it just the other day that they should've at the very least re-released it by now.

It really should have been. I’m glad Skyward Sword got another chance, and I’m happy we got a new Endless Ocean… but why no Punch Out?

That game actually and literally helped my health

Playing a game that requires you to move constantly while needing catlike reflexes tends to make you burn some grams

It’s one of the best games for that. This game is like the unfulfilled dream of the Wii. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat too. Games that get you moving, and you sweat, but the game is so good that you don’t care. You love it.

this game is a classic you can cheat your loses by pauseing and click restart also they have the classic if you lose 3 times game over man for GOOD on your save file.... and it shows a sad movie for it also. also von kaser has the best countdown music ever. if i can find a way to use my PS5 controller for the wii motion to control the screen i would.

Never had the chance to play it as a child. But I was an addict watching it.
I literally had week long periods where I searched for JUST this game and nothing else. Simpler timessss.................... or something.

This was an incredible remake. I have no idea why this, Wario Land Shake-It and Kirby's Epic Yarn are not on Switch yet.

I assumed you only had motion control which prevented me to play it up until last year.

Why we never got any sequel to it?

Wait, I died like four times against Mister Dream and it was fine.

its a great game a really good punch out game
so fun to play and even tough i did lose many times it feelt okey to lose

I think that this game needed to use the Wii's full capacities to be that good.

I mean Skyrim came out right before the 8th gen was coming.

I guess that’s fair.

My main thing is that the people who were most likely to love this game and give it a shot when it released… had been burned by the Wii already. 2008 and 2009 made sure that the Wii got its old reputation for being “the stupid waggle machine”. Something that was well built, had classic appeal, and made sense with motion control was sorely needed at the time.

It’s also tragic that most of the “retro nostalgia” for the year Punch Out Wii released was placed into DKCR. Fun game, but not as good as Punch Out would end up being.

In short, I just wish it had been out at a time where more people would have given it a shot. It’s a game that fulfills the promise that the Wii set out at the start of its life, but it came out by the point where most people had given up on that promise. The Wii was the Virtual Console and Netflix machine by then, and very little could change people’s minds.

I got the game day one with no regrets. I played the shit out of Punch Out Wii! I still consider it the best of the franchise.
