Title.

I remember playing wipeout on a friends home, back in time on the PSX. Always liked the asthetics and theme of futuristic anti gravity vehicles at top speed, but never got very good at it.

Thing is, im itching to give it a try, but since then a lot of wipeouts have been made, inclusing PSP, (I think Vita?) PS3 and PS4 i think.

Leaving out PS4 one (not owning one, not being agle to be emulated decently enough) wich one would you recommend to a newcommer, or wich one do you people consider the best? -As said, on any platform, handhelds included, but previous to PS4 generation.

Thanks in advance!

Not played a Wipeout yet but I'm curious what folks would have to say.

My personal favorite is Wipeout 3 as I feel it has the highest degree of polish out of any of the classic titles but XL/2097 is generally regarded as the best one.
As for 3, it has tons of content, challenging through and through, a killer soundtrack and The Designers Republic absolutely knocked it out of the park as far as presentation goes. It's peak Wipeout in every sense IMO. Seriously, the game is absolutely exquisite, completely delightful to the senses and a joy to play. An astounding achievement in the sound, graphic design and gameplay departments.
There's a modern PC source port of the original game, if you are interested too.

So if you want to play Wipeout in your web browser, play this:

If you want to play it offline in windows then play this:

Ofc, 2097/XL is still best played on real hardware, or emulators.

And forget WO3 altogether. It was a buggy mess and should never have had a public release (really, just don't play it).

However, WO3:Special Edition is a different story altogether... Lots of bugfixes and gameplay/physics enhancements (not to mention the extra tracks etc). It literally turned out to be the best WO game ever released.
I still play it to this day.

PS1 have the best Wipeout for sure, but the PSP is also one of the best one to get into like Pure and Pulse

Yoink!
I'm adding this to the site.

Now idk if trying first WO3SE or Phantom!

Guess Phantom is a easy try as i can download and play it straight on Pc...

You may want to consider Wipeout HD, the PS3 version.
There's one element thats lost from the PS4 version, and that would be how the game handles custom music. The tracks in Zone mode act like a visual equaliser to your music, and the audio is muffled when you go airborne. A small touch, but it made me prefer the PS3 version over Omega.
