I played all 3 in rapid succession in late June early july 2024 so I still have fresh memories about it here is how it went
RE1: the worst of the 3 I had this issue of enemy animation being so slow that it doesn't sync up well with what happens in the game for example I shoot a zombie he falls his fall animation is so slow that I decide to shoot him again he doesn't get shot cuz the game registered that he is actually on the ground this is a big issue cuz hunters once shot by the shotgun fumble and get back up again and bounce at you decapitating you in the process or dealing immense damage you can dodge by changing firing position but you will never be able to shoot the hunter twice while he is on the ground again due to slow animations the least scary RE game so far the only thing that made me anxious and quite frightened are the chimeras cuz they run so freaking fast and climb the ceiling and the tyrants who made me freeze a bit when I first saw them.
RE2: coming from RE1 to this felt so good finally the animation issue is fixed and the game is actually pretty scary the vibe that 2 gives off is very different from 1 in 1 the music always gave off a mysterious vibe that something not good and sinister happened here combined with the colourful design of the mansion , now 2 is dark the colors are way less colorful than those of 1 it feels lost and hopeless the whole game gives off the vibe of "this wasn't supposed to happen" lickers are freaking terrifying they crank up my anxiety and panic to 11 when I see one this one did scare me pretty well especially that damn licker that jumps through the window in the interrogation room combined with mr x and the unique wounded animations that cause you to become slower all added to the tension and scary vibe.
RE3: looks same as 2 but plays differently first you are no longer stuck inside 1 building for the entirety of the game you go around the city of raccoon and do whatever you want , you can dodge now which is very cool and allow you to save ammo you also auto aim which is a significant improvement over the first 2 games making the knife viable for once , the nemesis well he made me so scared that I had the grenade launcher on me the whole time it doesn't help that he can 2 shot you anytime he is also programmed to always keep the distance between you and him close which is the last thing you want , the hunters make a return they still sound the same but luckily you can deal with them easier than before the drain demos are quite intimidating when they stand on their legs in terms of zombie sound design 2 is better but 3 zombie screams just get drilled in your head when you are navigating the city one thing I prefer about 2 over 3 is text speed , 3 goes back to the slow typing of text like RE1 "do you want to pick this green herb?" In 2 is so smooth but in 3 is less smooth idk why they reverted it was so good in 2!
Overall 2 is the best the puzzles are way more simple than 1 and the gameplay improvements like 3 bullet shooting leon gun or the crossbow for Claire is so cool , lickers , mr x all help cement it as a great experience and of course the RPD lobby theme which does the "this shouldn't have happened" so well I rate 3 just below 2 it comes pretty close but lack of lickers keeps it under 2 , what makes 3 unique is its the only horror game I solved all puzzles by myself in RE2 I missed the gem in the briefing room and had to look up where it is , in 1 I had to look up the gallery , the pc puzzles but I gotta say 1 has the strongest puzzles looking forward to play the RE1 remake since it looks so good.
So for me its 2 and 3 comes so close its barely an inch between it and 2
