Why is The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya heralded as such a classic and important anime?

watch it in broadcast order, and then if you want, rewatch it in chronological order.
Thats the way IMO

I've literally never heard of this series until now.
From the title, I thought "Haruhi Suzumiya" was an author until I looked it up.

It is ? I had no clue it was even relevant I tried watching it but it was a pain in the ass becuse it was hell of conufsing and most charters just pain in the ass. I know a few people like it but it bearly got 7.22 out of 10 so people thing it´s good. Heck people bearly talk about it so it does not seam to be important or a classic.

Akira/Evangelion now that are important classic people can never shut up about and I don´t even like them they where okey at best.

But today I know why I never liked Evangelion the dude who wrote it ended up in mental hospital and wrote the last episodes and the 2 movie at his stay there. No damn wonder Evangelion is so damn confusing I could not even explain what it´s all about that horny teen boy mech and angels.

Akira and Evangelion are pretty much groundbreaking for anime as a whole in their own right when they were released, actually invited casual viewers to discuss about them outside the otaku scope (Akira with its animation technology and Evangelion with its psychological view) and to this day nothing else can replicate them, that's why.

All Haruhi does is merely enabling garbage otaku culture and stigmatizing them even worse in the public eye, in no way it was ever viewed as "classic" or "important" even in its boom.

I like the ideas surrounding the mc most of anything.
But i watch this a long time ago, and from what i remember i had a very good impression in that moment.

Now i'm older, my boobs are heavier, and my tastes are a little different.
I probably will re watch this by curiosity, at some point.

Haruhi was something I remember being super huge when I was first getting into anime properly (outside of things aired on TV where I lived) in the late 2000's. I'll be honest; I never really got the appeal myself. I've tried to get into it a few times because the premise is so interesting to me, but every time I get so bored a few episodes in. I do truly think the reason it isn't really remembered or heralded as much as other older anime is because of the actual look of the show. It just isn't very exciting to look at, it has what one could describe as "Generic 2000's anime art" as it's aesthetic. Look at all the beloved anime's from around that time as well; Gurren Lagann, Lucky Star, Darker than Black etc. They're all extremely visually striking and distinctive, they stick out in your mind. Haruhi simply doesn't.
