Why is the internet the way it is?

Simple. It's called the iPhone and the post 2007 internet sans exclusivity from the required steep technical and financial investment that the 1990's internet enjoyed.
This basically plus forcing everyone to pivot to video content because the public can't be arsed to read anymore.

The only thing worse than modern website design is websites just going offline completely because the investors pull support or the owner can't keep up with hosting costs. Two of the websites I used to write for went to the boring redesign route and the third just went kaput.

I have no idea what the point of this thread is but I'm happy with how things are. It's not boring, there's always something to do. Of course, you shouldn't sit on the internet all the time now, otherwise it won't be good anymore. Everything is fine, what more could you want? I would like to see cheaper internet contracts because many internet providers are simply too expensive.

I don't mean it's boring in the sense of not having things to do, because you have a lot of things to do, but rather in the sense that everything looks very minimalist nowadays. Of course, there are places where that's not the case, but that's neither here nor there. All in all, the point of the post is that everything that's modern nowadays is focusing more on the result rather than passion and ambition and things like that.

Because cooperation´s are tasteless and soulless entities. I mean look at my beloved eve online when I started the game in 2007 the game had colorful icon´s in the UI now it´s stale glass looking no color what so ever.

It went from this.

To this horrbile dead ass clean look that just make you depressed seeing. But they call it simple clean design and much better for it´s users. That´s a F-ing fast lie I have ever heard my entire life.

Wow, perfect example of what I am talking about.

I understand what you mean but whatever, we can't change it anyway. Perhaps things will change again soon, who knows, anything is possible.

Difference is that unless you know where to look, search engines (meaning basically Google) erased or blocked millions of pages and sites due to Digital Millenium Copyright Act. They do not even appear in the top search results or at all.

Also now all remaining search engines get their data from Google, who recently also added Reddit to the top results for all technical issues. I blocked Reddit from search results.

In the 90s, every search engine had her own unique results. I'd say up to the early 2010s, it was far easier to look what you were looking for and often free.

Now all that content hid behind private trackers, sites and paywalls.

Even Youtube 10 years ago was far more liberal with the content . It was filled with old and rare to find privately owned movies and tv series from vhs, most of which are now erased along with the account.
Whereas nowadays you can not even upload a tiny clip of a movie without getting flagged

I'd say the Death of Flash had a part of it. It impacted the internet landscape in a major way since the internet now is more sanitized and less creative and weird.

You want a better internet? Remove access to the internet from the general public's pocket.
I agree to an extent. Technology progressed too fast, especially in the late 2000s. I thought the Blackberry & Motorola Razr was really cool at the time, and I was excited to grow older and have those as phones, but after the iPhone came out you can clearly see a corporate shift that slowly overarched until you couldn't ignore it anymore. ::sadkirby

(Some people who have used the internet for a long long time say the time period in between 2010-2014 is where they felt that soullessness, but for me I think 2013 youtube was when even I couldn't really ignore it anymore as a child (you started seeing sponsors, a worser layout, etc. But the point differs for everyone, it's definitely the early 2010s that sadly created the blueprint of what we're seeing today. But I do feel most people that are around my age would say 2016 is when everything was just extremely shitty and at that point it felt like many people simply wanted to go ahead and consume what they thought was "good" content (the commentary era of youtube, I don't understand why people liked that stuff so much when the "old youtube" that came before it was less malicious in nature and it felt more human, since people didn't care about stale expired internet drama that ended up getting monetized. I could say more, but I'm getting offtopic bringing up youtube...) ::nervous-prinny

This too. I wish people would read more, the death of bookstores in the west always makes me really sad, especially since I wanted to work at one for my first job. As for websites going offline, there was a old forum (Tonberry Torrents) that LEGIT disappeared. When I clicked on it recently, it redirected me to Google. Kept doing it, and I even thought it had to do with my device but no, it wasn't accessible anymore. And now it outright doesn't show up anymore...I don't remember the specific url, but I know it's probably completely gone. It's hard to even trust redesigns, because all you're doing is adding bloat to your site. Like no shit it's probably going to cost more for them (and Electron kind of fuckin sucks to look at sometimes imo. It's a minor complaint and it's not a big deal but I don't agree on redesigns for sites that aren't even being checked on in the first place.) ::sailor-embarrassed
I'd say the Death of Flash had a part of it. It impacted the internet landscape in a major way since the internet now is more sanitized and less creative and weird.
Keeping Flash was pretty much the only way to really archive that time of the internet and of course the most corporate company to ever exist (Adobe) decides to just throw that in the garbage. Thankfully Ruffle and Flashpoint exist but it's a shame that people have to take time out of their own hands just to archive something that companies (if they had any soul) should've already done.

I just meant in the sense that actual passion and ambition to create something fun and cool has disappeared, and in its place is just minimalist garbage that sucks your life away, literally.

That's true, but that's kind of the corner of the internet and not really the forefront, which is where I want it to be.
The forefront of the internet. You want to be "In the forefront?" Can you develop that?

Cause the forefront of the internet NEVER used to be "passion and ambition", but just a bunch of webs like MSN and clones. "Web portals" treated as demi-gods of the internet, by TV and ancient media. You could be bored of that shit in just 1 week.

The fun was always BEHIND the forefront: Napster, Edonkey, Piratebay... some personal pages made from the bottom using simple "barebone" html code..., the mIRC, forums were you can talk with people about your interests and hobbies...

Then... came the boring blogs, the famous podcasts, wikipedia (which now is just insufferable manipulation of "closed articles" in maaaany topics), the silicon valley "social networks", "Bitcoins, memecoins and NFTs" Rug pulls, and now, OnlyFans sites (which is, you now, "very convenient": you no longer need the classic pimps anymore to be a hooker... just some nice "social network". Work of the future). Everything prepared to control more and more the people with propaganda, fake interactions, and deception. To make them more stupid, dumb and passive. Less and less "passionate and ambitious". You will have nothing, but you will be "happy". Take some pills, if you need a boost.

The "forefront" of the commercial internet, always sucked big balls, always has been pure commercial and manipulated poo-poo.
Is always controlled by lots of money and interests by billionaires. That was the forefront. That is the forefront. That will always be the forefront.
And If someone has success outside the forefront, it will be buyed, censored and transformed into a shit. Or destroyed. Or booth.

You videogame people remember the last time you visited IGN? You even know what IGN is? It used to be a great site about videogames news and info made by PASSIONATE people, about 25 years ago. Well, it was so successful... it was bought, and meticulously transformed to a useless corporate crap with useless workers, and bland interface, of course.

Cause everything in the forefront of the internet, has to be controlled CRAP... or if it comes from the organic internet behind, has to BECOME CRAP. To trap you in the mental state and ideas imposed in the system, to trap you in the interests of the "chosen ones", to make you sad and a good slave, to make you feel DEPRESSED. First... bursting in frustration, then depressed. "Until you die, if you don't mind. Thanks".
And who are "the chosen ones". The billionaires. How this people get billionaire the last 40-50 years in western world? NOT working hard WITH PASSION. Oh no. that's for sure. Understand?

You want to be in the front? You will need to suck many genitals and get a lot of luck. So, prepare yourself.

Another example? Metacritic was always a PURE CRAP WEB, and now we know by some leaks, it even have a huge importance in the development of games, at least, in western countries. I never used that repulsive web, I always used Gamerankings. Gamerankings was bought by Metacritic, and erased from the internet from day to night.
Why? Because Metacritic was created to be a controlled videogame criticism media. And Gamerankings just was a huge impediment to that. So, "it had to disappear". Cause "market provides competence and... ups, no. Not anymore".
So, now, Metacritic It is a shitshow of fake reviews, just to get a good number when some product fails bad, but it is very controlled in the end: Everyone has to go there, no option anymore :).

This forum is like an old style forum from 20 years ago, where you go to get some internet fun. If this web becomes forefront? It will be an insufferable shit, because some demons would appear from nowhere, with lots of money to invest and "change some little things". They are experts in destroying everything with "little changes".

I saw websites becoming CRAP and its amazing community created along the years totally disbanded (destroyed), when those demons appeared with stupid promises. Thinking they did some great pact with "who knows who" to get lots of money, the site was destroyed by the changes, and abandoned by almost all the community (some even expelled) after that. Getting mostly deserted. Destroyed forever.

That is why it's so hard to create anything "with passion and ambition" inside the internet. If you grow to become "at the front", eventually you will have to obey foreign orders, or disappear. Internet is a "meta-controlled" space by its western owners, as the real western world is. And as you can see in everyday politics getting crazy by the moment, everything in this western world, including Internet, is every day more and more "calcifícated" by those demons... No possible changes: Everything will just broke, before accept any REAL change.
What do you think it happened in France in 1789? or in Russia in 1917? People wanting to fight against the power... just because "fun"? Nope: People having LITERALLY their empire "ballsrooms" full of MASSIVE CORRUPTED EGOTISTICAL and EXTRA RICH LEADERS during MAAAANY YEARS, telling them, every few years, their own sons needed to go to war, at some random country, for SOME LIES and STUPID REASONS. Very strange, right? We do not do this anymore... right? thankfully. :)

(Beautiful BIG Ballroom full of nice and good people. And look those "OnlyFans" legs of that pure granny King of France. You can see them, naked, just by $25 a month, in OnlyKings.)

The "chosen ones" demand respect, and your freedom. In and outside the internet. And they control the internet using its forefront. So, you now know "what happened" with all "the passion and ambition": Epstein had them all... but in their Island. Ask Trump.

And that's why China created its own internet space, as early as they could. They were smart, and see that shit coming 25 years ago. No western crap there. No WOKE. No OnlyFans. No massive credits for everything.

Even more depressing is the bland and boring people who don't see anything wrong with it because it reflects how bland and boring they are.

I honestly feel the push for sterile, minimalistic interfaces is to allow the older generations to be able to use them. Once that generation has ended and everyone alive understands the core concepts of digital navigation, I wouldn't be surprised to see a renessaince of colorful, stylistic interfaces to become popular.

I just meant in the sense that actual passion and ambition to create something fun and cool has disappeared, and in its place is just minimalist garbage that sucks your life away, literally.

You've got to dive deeper, then. The Net is Vast and Infinite.
