Why is it that the file size for the first crash bandicoot is like 3 times the file size of crash bandicoot 2
IDK but it make me remember the usage of dummy files.

Today's lesson: Why the fuck some games have rubbish big dummy files?

Technically putting a dummy file first and then adding game files make the game in the outer edge of the disc while the dummy file populate inner area of the disc that's around where you insert the disc on PS1 and PS2 for example. The console can read the outer edge of the disc faster due to the way it works. It helps with loading times, even making game work properly due to the way the engine works.

But why?: It's mostly a matter of being noob or lazy at optimization. This method does work, but it may be actually unnecessary but they may do it anyway to make the game's data read being faster. It was like common way for console games in the disc back then. In this context why the other games may not be so is they learned proper way of optimization and understood dummy files are not always necessary.

Another thing, existence of dummy files increases file size and thus it increases the cost of producing disc of the game which would be why developers would get good and optimize the game and reduce game file size.

But some thought instead of a dummy file let's fill it with extra content like videos and stuff!!
