PS3 Why don't people like The Last Of Us?

I've seen my nephews play it over and over again. Maybe I got spoiled too much but that's not the only reason why I haven't played it yet.

I feel like the game is going to steer me towards certain moral and political stances that I disagree with. That kind of dissonance I'll get keeps me from starting the game even though we have a copy of it. And now that I've also seen where the story is headed in Last of Us 2 from watching my nephew's playthrough, I feel like I'll have a miserable time if I get attached too much to the characters in light of that certain most controversial "assassination" at the start of the sequel.

I don't care that much about zombie themed media. There has been a massive burst in the 2010's but nowadays there's a "fatigue" about the genre (it happened to sci fi, fantasy and even western).

While it was an impressive late 7th gen game I feel that too many AAA wanted to be the next TLoU without actually improving gameplay or even game design, we came to a stagnation for over a decade.

I'd even say that Resident Evil 4 already existed for the TPS genre (followed by Dead Space) so I'm not sure if this one really made a new step in there.

Oh and before I forget the whole "we can save humanity but sadly the girl has to die from extraction" feels like bad writing because it makes little to no sense.

As someone who likes the Last of US my assumptions are
1.Its a very cinematic game (I like it but there are people who hate it)
2.Its a playstation exclusives and not many people where ready buying a new console just to play a game.
3.::cirnoshrug
maybe the combat system and Story ??

I'm specifically talking about the first one, since we all know the kind of dumpster fire the sequel was.

I honestly thought it was a masterpiece worthy of replaying again and again, but I have met no shortage of people (specially here, on RGT) that hate it passionately.

Just... Why? I'm not dismissing you -- I'm genuinely curious about it.
im not a fan of cinematic games
the success of TLOU may have contributed for sony to focus on more story focused games than actual, yknow gameplay focused games

I attempted to play it, but didn't get far and kinda lost interest. Something about that gameplay loop which is extremely linear and switches between the "passive part" which is walking forward listening to dialogues/watching cutscenes to the more "active part" of doing some shooting and whatnot just didn't sit well with me. I guess I could say I like to be either in playing mode or watching mode, not switching between then constantly. Then again I don't find "the walking dead"-esque stories particularly interesting no matter how well executed they are. But still, I gotta say, the game had the best looking graphics I ever saw.
