Why do you play games?

Honestly there are different reasons why. The main one would be simply to have fun, but also to relax and kill time, or maybe just to live an experience, like how you would consume other cultural media. It's good not to overthink things but I believe it may be beneficial to ask oneself why you're playing, as in the recent years I've noticed many times I just play out of habit without really having fun or getting anything out of it.

Definitively I learned most of my English from video games and the Internet rather than school lol. If only I had the patience I had as a kid so I could play more games in other languages!

That's why people go to a bar, disco, party, beaches, et cetera and these are way more meaningful and "useful" alternatives than video games so when they exist video games for that is pointless!!!! lol

Joking aside, I enjoy them because they are fun times whenever I just wanna chill and play something. There really isn't any media like video games and it has stuck with me ever since my youth, even the challenging parts that give me the same feelings as watching CBT are great fun after it's said and done. So gaming is pretty neat and I'll always be playing them till I die.

I'm having a hard time articulating it, but: I'm as old as the 2600 so games have always been around. I've always had this thing about just sitting down and just watching TV, and that thing is that I hate it. Give me the means to interact with the screen instead? That's good stuff. Even as a little kid, if you sat me down and said "just watch tv for awhile," I would become bored quickly and want to also be doing something else. Give me a toy, give me a coloring book, just anything except sitting here staring at a thing. Give me a controller and a couple of games, and I'm way more satisfied.

Which isn't to say there aren't shows and movies I enjoy, and if I go to a theater I'm fully capable of watching a movie properly, because that's the experience. But TV as a whole is always a secondary/background thing for me while I'm doing something else. I don't think it's like ADD or something though, because I can focus for a very long time on really mundane stuff? I think it's just in how it's presented, and "this show is on for 30 minutes at the speed it's going to go" has just never sat well with me.
