Considering General sections are more watercooler oriented with mostly people you sort of know/are regulars, I think it sounds like an okay sort of anti-troll measure.

Though again I understand the decision right now. Gotta protect the repo and all that.

It would make sense, since trolls here are usually level 1 or just bots who stumble here just to shit it up. You gotta have some history on this forum to post on the general discussion board! would that help?

I think it's fair, leveling up is not that hard anyways (says a lvl 1 user lol). But honestly, some restrictions could be useful for threads like the TDoV one.

I'd say make the rules exceptionally clear, but there's the whole lock analogy where locks only keep honest people out, it doesn't stop assholes.

We can gate and inscribe laws all we want but if someone wants to sew chaos, not much is going to stop them.

We'd have to do some serious subterfuge and shenanigans to properly combat this.

Of course I'm happy that the repo is safe, but I can't say that meaning the death of the place I've spent the most time on the site isn't a conflicting feeling at best. The Spike and the most team are too nice and generally good for this site to deserve this bullshit.

I seriously can't even begin to imagine how people become the "I don't like this discussion so nobody can have it." type. I can't even completely wrap my head around taking something someone said on the internet so seriously that it would drive someone to jump to threatening the site itself.

I had thicker skin when I was 4. I really don't know which is more frustrating to me between the blatant disregard for everyone else or just how completely pathetic it all is.

Also again, just because I really don't want this to read wrong to anyone, I want to stress my frustrations are entirely on whoever felt the need to censor discussion they didn't like on a small game forum. Mod team did nothing wrong.​

From my experience modding various sites, once a user gets banned for inappropriate/rule-breaking behavior, it is extremely rare for them to make the effort to actually return.

Context and intent are what's important.

We have forum rules and operate under the understanding that people would agree to follow them. But an opinion breaking said rules isn't immediately a bannabale offense (mistakes happen, judgement slips... And we aren't hearing each other, only reading them, which may contribute to misunderstandings).

We also tend to give people the benefit of the doubt unless harmful intent seems blatantly obvious.

While I like the idea of this, I don't think it'd help much. People like this often have an issue with whatever they take issue with being discussed at all. A compromising solution likely isn't something they'd take.
