Why are "gamer/gaming" accessories so overpriced?

There are too many companies out there that buy the absolute cheapest sh--, throw some LEDs in it, slap the word 'gamer' into the product name, and charge a massive markup. I still haven't found a reason not to buy the same Logitech equipment I've alway bought, at roughly the same price I've always paid. No lights, no bells, no whistles. But it works just fine for me.

The hardware is never going to make up for my astoundingly mediocre gaming skill.

The bright colorful lights sound like the opposite of what a gamer needs. They are very distracting and sometimes power-hungry, yet manufacturers put them on everything.

I'm wondering why when it's about nerdy/geek stuff they get called manchildren yet people that are a lot into sports (like football or soccer) they're more accepted.
