Who's your SEGA waifu?

Between Amy and Rouge it's not really a contest, if you ask me. Rouge wins by a landslide.
Ah, now I'm reminded of two very fine specimens of a Sega women.

General Spiriel, from Shining Force 3

It says Spirited because in the Japanese version, Sega/Camelot went with this strange idea of character names being adjectives a lot of the time.

And Marky, likewise

Funny thing is, while I got over Aerith dying, Nei's has always left me with a bitter taste.

As if the emotional gutpunch wasn't bad enough, she was also the strongest member of the party! Or at least the best fighter. I like to think it was the game's way of demonstrating how she was a non-human who aged / matured faster than normal people, in that she leveled up rapidly and grew stronger at a quicker pace than the rest of the party. A nice little detail - especially for a game from 1989!

Like I'm sure plenty of others did, I replayed that fight several times in an attempt to come out on top. I hadn't really played many (any?) games at that point with scenarios that forced you to lose. Once I accepted that you couldn't win (the hint book was fairly clear on this) I was left demoralized, realizing that I had the bulk of the game ahead of me with a mostly-underdeveloped party.

And, oh yeah, the enemies have now gotten substantially stronger! And the remaining dungeons are tougher than ever! And you just lost your best character - along with all their equipment!

Yeah. Sega cut all of us PSII vets pretty deep with that one. It was a tough thing to get over ?

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Fighting Vipers! All right!!

When I wasn't using Pepsiman, I was getting my butt kicked trying to figure out how to use Honey. I had a much better time once the armor started breaking apart... ?

I'll add on Janet from Virtua Cop / Fighter's Megamix. Her handgun move in the latter was pretty broken, but oh-so-fun to use against the CPU ?

Dammit, Janet....jpg

It's very cool to see so many Phantasy Star fans here. However...View attachment 36072
Mad respect for showing Sakura Wars some love ??

I've never played the games, but I remember the marketing push for the OG Saturn entry in Japan. I had an issue of NewType that came with a full-color insert booklet promoting the game months before its release. Full of character art and bios.

I remember looking through it and thinking it all looked pretty cool, and was very surprised at the level of quality in the artwork. They really went all out - there was nothing cheap or half-hearted about it!

Part of me is surprised by the lack of Virtua Fighter love in this thread. No Sarah? No Pai? No Dural?? Or maybe I just missed those posts from earlier...

I was never the biggest VF fan, but I do remember crushing on Aoi pretty hard when I saw screenshots of her in magazines. It also keeps with the Sakura theme of this post ?

Claris Snowflake from Shin Sakura Wars stole my heart. At first I tought Hatsuho would be my choice since fiery tomboys are one of my weakness but Claris sweetness won me over time.

I also like the fact that she presents herself as this prim and proper girl but actually enjoys reading lewd novels and has a mean side to her to spice things up.
