I'd say the opposite actually, the company has actually improved since the NES. If you think their behavior is despicable now just research their policies in the 80s, they were so harsh to devs and publishers that it's what made Nintendo lose their monopoly over the industry. Most of their competitors rose to prominence due to their fault. (just look at Hudson, Sega and Sony)
Didn't Nintendo practically threaten American stores to not sell their competition at one point or be blacklisted back in the 90s?
