Who else is/was not allowed to play online games?

I play but dont mic or talk to anyone i like need for speed games because you get races can crash into people if you feel like it and just generally drive about having a blast. Fortnite im good enough to play without a team so solos is great. I wasnt allowed to play street fighter 2 growing up cuz i was crazy and truly believed i was the characters so school banned that haha. i never really played anything online till the ps3 era can honestly say ive never really recieved anyone flaming me in chats.

i WAS technically allowed but not really, was only allowed to play with my relatives online and they monitored me 24/7 in the living room and wasnt allowed to use headphones, probably explains why i prefer single player games now TwT

I wasn't able to play on the internet when I was a kid.
Because it didn't exist yet.
AOL changed life for me haha the chat rooms were insane

No one cared if I talked to or played games online. But I was always that weird player you saw in MMORPGs who had group request disabled and soloed games like RuneScape, ESO, and such. I don't like talking to people in real life, nor do I online. Voice I mean, text is fine or whatever.

When I turned 13, I would ask my parents if I could join x forum or y forum or z forum and every time they would say no. Eventually I got fed up with it, made my own e-mail and just started signing up on websites without informing them. I was a well-behaved kid, so my parents never had any need to spy on what I was doing on the computer.

As for playing games online, just do it anyways without telling them lol. I don't think most parents are tech literate enough to realize whether a game is online or not. If talking to strangers in a voice chat is an issue, maybe just use headphones and only type in chat.

For the most part, I didn't play online on a console much, if at all until maybe around the time I got my 3DS in mid to late 2014. But even before that, I didn't even chat with anyone online while gaming much aside from maybe social media sites. Most of the online chatting was on PC and some gaming as well. I kind of did lie about my age for Neopets a few times before I got myself into heap trouble there for a rather sketchy trade which is on me. ::surprised-pikachu

I'm not allowed in my case bc they involve talking with people online and you all know i'm not allowed to do that
Wait...what? one more time? lol

No but seriously, it's funny because with topics like this one you make me feel like a grandpa.

I believe parents do not educate their kids to use technology nowadays because there is a big lacking in interest from them. They just block, block and block because of some stupid censorship shenanigan gene they have.

If I had a kid of 15 years old I would allow him/her to play whatever they wanted and talk with whoever they wanted, because I know I would have explained everything about these things and the different approaches to take and outcomes to face. If my kid isn't retard, the info would be much more impactful than just blocking it from doing anything. The main issue here is kind of psychological, because parents feel empowered by being able to block and control somebody, even if they are their own kids.

Since I was 10, my father educated me about drugs, tobacco and alcohol mainly, and also about sex. When I was 12, my group of friends started to try tobacco "for fun" and I told them I didn't want. It costed me losing my group of friends and stick with another one, totally different. Thanks to that, I started playing videogames, and that was real fun for me.

I have never been blocked from doing anything, since I was 12 I could go outside to play until 22:00 in the night because my parents knew I was a really responsible kid. Everytime I had a problem I called them, everytime I had bad grades or fail an exam I told my parents without hesitation, but a little afraid though lol. My father used to ground me without playing games but allowed me to go outside to play with friends because he told me that was very important for my personal growth.

I once had a very interesting conversation with my father when I was 14, because in middle school I used to fail at every subject because I was not interested in studying. It was summer vacation and my father asked me why I was not interested in studying, and I told him it was not the time for me. It was the time to enjoy life and have fun with friends because when they grow up they would have family and kids and I didn't want to have kids so they will have little time to spend with me. My father got surprised and granted me the best wish I could have for that summer: total freedom to stay with my friends, no time limit to come back home and play as much as I wanted, as long as he knew I was safe wherever I were.

Now I am a grown up "kid", with a good engineer job and a nice life.

I feel very fortunate for having these parents, specially when I started living by myself. They educated me well without pushing or watching me very much and they have my eternal gratitute for that, that's why I would educate my children in the same way :)

My parents didn't know about tech stuff so they didn't care. The only thing is that they didn't like to see me all the time sitting there in front of a screen and wanted me to go outside more. While I had classmates to talk to in school, they weren't my friends for go play out side of school time, so once school ended I was kind of lonely and expended the rest of the time in the computer at that time.
Thinking now about it I did some thing I shouldn't. Being a teenager(around 13) I was so interested in sex and other girls, so I started entering chatrooms, specially ones that were for sex talk. I talked with strangers, added them to my MSN(Microsoft messenger) for getting to know them better. Once, one of them(If remember correctly "she" was from Mexico) send me two photos of her naked, but something made me think in that moment that she wasn't her in the photo, because the quality was professional. And now thinking about that, it's not only that it wasn't her in the photo, but neither who was talking to me a girl, and being a photo of a girl of my age at that time.. you know what it was.
Thankfully I started shifting my attention from the chat-rooms to new friends at school who I could go out to play, either video-games, pool, ping-pong, or to dance at night.
Later my mom will complain that I was going outside too much jaja. They were good, gave me the stuff I needed and wanted, they just didn't know the dangers of this modern era or maybe TV frighten them too much so its normal to overreact I think, more so when its about your loved ones.
I think you said you are 16? Well that is 3 years more than when I made mistakes but don't ever think you are clever enough, even in adults that could be a grave mistake.

I've been playing MMORPGs since I was 12 and I'm 32 now ::winkfelix(Ultima,Silkroad,WoW,KnightOnline,Metin2,Archeage(its closed :( )...etc)
Since I started playing MMORPGs online, I couldn't even begin to tell you what the first ones I played were. At one time, I had accounts for most MMORPGs around, mind you I mean English ones.
I would play them for a few days maybe a Week get bored, and move on.

I lose interest in MMORPGs pretty easily, I have no idea why. Even to this day, they can't hold my interest. No other game does this to me.

My mom doesn't let me play Roblox. She says it's because I'm in my thirties. PFFFFTTTT WHATEVER
Ok you did something not a lot of people have. You got a genuine laugh out of me from text

Me, but because internet back in the day was expensive as fuck and my old man didn't see the need for that. By the time technology marches on, I tend to stay away from online-only play by my own choice, I even prefer my CoD multiplayer in split screen, at the couch with the bois.
Damn, I feel old.
You said everything I could've said, saved me time of typing it out, thanks ::winkfelix

For real though, dial up was expensive and the internet was banned from the house due to my older brother racking up a massive bill and I didn't have internet again till I was 18 years old, and measly 5mbps broadband at that.

I am also not in a habit of seeing people I play online with as actually people, could be bots for all I know.

I much prefer playing games in split screen vs or co-op. That all said though, I was "well-behaved" of my own volition, so I never really got up to anything on the internet that is wrong in any way, it was just that my brother racked up a massive bill at one point and I had no internet at all.

Save maybe non legally sanctioned copies of software...., started doing that almost immediately. I am now going into year 4 of a computer science university degree though so I made something out of all this. Don't tell anyone I, pirate software!!

To be fair to me, my dad used to copy vhs tapes with two VCR's so I'm continuing the tradition.

I remember not being allowed to play games online when I was little, and I rarely play them online now because I mostly hate people ::cirnoshrug

I only tried once to actively play a certain Korean mmorpg back in the early 2000... And I was "blocked by poor hardware", framerate in the single digits, buggy and unable to do basics commands.
My closest experience was looking at my younger brother play Tibia, that during those days played and looked very similar to Ultima VI and VII.

Yea yea my parents warned me and all but i went online since 4 or 5 years old playing flash games at 6th grade i got me game ranger , and Facebook went to many groups talked to many people downvoted and flamed pubg players when i a around 8th grade hated on battle royal , made friends with Iraqis , Egyptians , CNC people and all sorts of people i didnt have a microphone so i only talked text in counter strike for communication i generally love to talk to people whether IRL or online get to know and connect to other humans who we may not see IRL ever.....

Well even though the Internet cafe was near me I am not into online gaming because a.) I have a friend who love that online gaming (Ragnarok online thr first one) who tried me to play but the server was shut down she cried for is like "what after of your hard work all of this gone once a server was gone" since then I don't play online because I really care about my status items equipment and of course the friend list darn cannot be play offline.

Speaking only at home, my father was more into internet and forbidden me for playing online games and even some offline ones but that's outside the topic, my mom on the other hand told me to be careful but to do as i please since the world wouldn't always be a nice and protected place and that i needed to "taste" what i could find irl on the internet. And gotta point out she mostly speak of bad people in general, backstabbing kind etc not other weird stuff.

Back when I was growing up, the concept of having a computer for every member of the family individually was a mere fantasy. Instead we had what was known as the family computer. Mum often embarked on journeys on this computer to open 'hilarious' emails from my aunt and do online surveys. The children of the house were forbidden to play this machine, lest they let in the many evils of the internet. (This statement I felt was very odd since she had limewire going all the time.) The only time we were allowed access was to type up homework assignments under the watchful eye of parents.

Wasn't until about 2020 but that wasn't a parental problem. It was an ISP problem. Satellite internet is gaming hell. Things got better when I moved.
