Halo, EvE, Battlefield 4, MechWarrior Online, Sven Coop, Space Marine 2, HellDivers 2, and many others.

I hardly even use the emotes.

obviously you wont be able to vc but oh well. you could also try arguing you're playing with friends from school but maybe they wont accept it.

in any case you're not missing much. most multiplayer games arent fun without friends. i can only think of MMOS(with the most active ones being subscription based or with a ton of expansions) and helldivers 2.

So originally I could only play online with no mic, or things like the ds and wii but once my parents saw I was playing with mates from school, they let me mic up (they regretted that soon after this was MW & MW2 Xbox 360 era, and I was 13,14 and had a mouth like a gutter)

Me, but because internet back in the day was expensive as fuck and my old man didn't see the need for that. By the time technology marches on, I tend to stay away from online-only play by my own choice, I even prefer my CoD multiplayer in split screen, at the couch with the bois.
Damn, I feel old.

I was the first kid in my school who was allowed to play World of Warcraft, at 11, so my answer is probably "not me". I kind of treated it like a single-player game though and only occasionally talked to others. I thought the idea of every other orc aroudn me was a human being behind their own screen was really cool though, still kinda do even.
A few years later everyone was playing Counter-Strike, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3, and I joined them.

My parents were stricter with the age ratings on games than if they had online multiplayer, but back in 2006, right on the cusp of the dawn of social media, I don't think many parents (or kids) really knew of the risks of being online. I feel that it's pretty different now compared to then, because stuff like doxxing wasn't a common occurence, as Online and IRL were more seen as two separate worlds.

My parents had a thing about not liking to spend any kind of money online though, so I was out of luck for any kind of paid online game or service. They were convinced that all online purchases were scams, even gift cards were a no-go.

Internet gaming wasn't really much of a thing when I was underage. That said, I'm not really into online multiplayer stuff. Although I did play Maple Story years ago.

The only games my Mum objected to me playing were Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and GTA: San Andreas when I was 12~13. Funnily enough, GTA V would probably be the only game I'd be reluctant to let a child play at that age, because of how flatly the cynical parody is presented.

Was online by age 14 (I think). Pretty cool, considering the public internet was less than 18 years old at that point.

I wasn't online until I was almost 18 anyway, it existed in forms but wasn't really an option for me at the time. By then, no one cared what I did online.

I tend to hate most online games due to toxicity and the idea of only playing singleplayer games online. (THPS1+2 on Steam had this, but got patched to have offline mode pretty fast, thankfully.)

Most of Valve's multiplayer games tend to be the fun ones online. Garry's Mod, HL2:DM, Team Fortress 2, CS:S surf -- that kind of stuff.

Eh, I grew up in the far mountain side, deep Appalachia. So DSL was a extreme luxury and Internet used to have limits.

I remember I would have small wars with my old man because I would torrent nonstop back then, so he change the password to the router and I would brute force hack my way back online.

But honestly, gaming with others online has never been my forte. The real limiting factor was that the Internet was too slow to really get on it. I played a bit of RuneScape, but mostly did it as a single player experience... Actually, that's 99% of my gaming in reality.

I think the only online game I ever got into was Hearthstone.

Didn't have internet until I was around 10 and it sucked. Parents are pretty tech illiterate. We got a PC at some point, but It was a terrible all-in-one. Used it to browse the web mostly. Honestly didn't get on my computer too much as a kid. Computer was so slow and internet was so bad I just preferred entertaining myself with other means, like watching television or playing vidya.
