Who else has a retroachievements profile?

YEAH! It's pretty nice to get an achievement from some really old Retro games (even the new ones)

I do but I don’t do much with it. Neat place though. Heard it has decent forums but I’ve yet to check for myself.

I don't have a profile there, no - achievements have a weird psychological effect on me in that they take away my internal sense of when I feel like I'm done with a game.

It ends up discouraging me from replaying games I love, since there's other games I haven't gotten all achievements on yet and makes me keep playing games I don't really enjoy anymore, since there're still achievements to be unlocked. Sometimes I hate my brain.

That said, I think it's genuinely super cool that people that do enjoy them have access to something like Retroachievements these days, makes emulation even more amazing than it already is in that sense.

(And since it's an opt-in kind of thing it's ultimately down to me whether I want to engage with it, unlike with Steam and PSN and so on, so that makes it extra neat!)

That sucks man, but yeah it is a pretty cool addition for emulators
Hopefully you can still enjoy the games even with that kind of effects

Oh no worries, it's manageable! Annoying, but manageable - taking some extended breaks from gaming usually helps break me out of that mental loop.
And that in turn gets me out of the house more often, so I guess there's a positive to it in that sense, too. 😅

Ah good to know man, having a positivity is great!

Then it’s probably gonna be worse for you when you play RetroArchievements because their entire shtick is committing months to a game until you have everything in it.

Oh I'm staying faaar away from it! 😂

I have one! I machine-gunned a bunch of games on there last year but I've had trouble finding motivation to play, uhh, anything for awhile now, so it's started to collect dust. I have a big list of games to complete though and I will return to it someday! I don't go for mastering games and I always play softcore, I don't cheat though. It's just a fun excuse to replay old games and incentive to play new ones.

Same, it's like the passion of playing is gone in a blink of an eye

Exactly. It's a really shitty feeling. And it really did just happen in the blink of an eye for me too. After I beat Chrono Cross back in early September, nothing has been able to hold my attention since. I've played some Vampire Survivors and Path of Exile 2 with friends, but only because they wanted to play. I sure hope I can lose this funk sometime soon and I hope you can lose it too.

I tried retroachivements but my silly brain couldn’t handle it :3 soo i stick to steam achievements or in game percentages

Yeah that's relatable, it's a bit shitty and I hope the same too ::dkapproves

As a big fan of PSN's trophy system I've always wanted to look into this! Seems like such a fun way to get a lil extra prestige and oomph out of retro games in a communal way.

I tried it out, but these achievements are HARDCORE.
Like, even in games I know very well and that I played multiple times, they ask you to do insane things.

For example, in DBZ Budokai 2, they ask you to get the Breakthrough capsules for all characters without using cheats.
Too bad that for doing this you have to complete Campaign Mode DOZENS of times.
Like, no, I'm not replaying throught the same game over and over and over again lol

It has the opposite effect on me, makes my retro games way more replayable and adds a charm to them, making 100x funnier

More fun or funnier lmao
But yeah it's true, some games that can be done with a short burst can be way more fun
