Alright, new question I got to ask since Super Robot Wars Y was announced and I want to know what my fellow retro dwellers believe is the best Super Robot Wars game, keep in note I've only played a good chunk of J, W, and a bit of X and V.

I haven't played many, truth be told (the ones I really want to play aren't translated). But from the ones that I did play, I found the most enjoyment in J.

A Portable is also worth playing because it is great on the PSP over the ugly GBA original.

In J's case, the reason is simple: it looks and animates the best on the hardware besides OG1 and OG2 and has a very cool machine roster, and Portable A is just the definitive version of the very first GBA SRW game.

X was the first one where I felt like I wasn't getting destroyed from the beginning.

The game dropping Masaki and Cybaster into your lap to give you an extra body for enemies to aim at makes all the difference.

Real Robot Battle Line is the best one, not part of the Super Robot Wars saga but plays exactly the same and its not super deformed mechas. You got a lot of different routes and there is a vast amount of secret characters you can recruit.

Its for the Playstation 1 and its pretty underrated. The loading times and framerate is not good in the original console, but if you play it through POPstarter (disc reading speed is faster) or in a emulator like Duckstation and overclock it and set read speed to 2x or 4x its much more playable.

Sad that its not uploaded in The Repo yet, its a hidden gem.

I beat two of of them. The first was Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masō Kishin – The Lord of Elemental, which I picked because it's a spin-off with an all-original cast (I'm not into mecha anime and wouldn't know all the references) and better presentation than usual. The game was much better than I expected, with a fun battle system that revolved mostly around setting up the most powerful hits you can, which was always satisfying. I thought it was pretty great. Since it's partly a sequel to SRW EX I beat that one after, and while it's not quite on the same level it's good too. I'd play more Masou Kishin especially, the mainline games I don't care about as much.

Well if you can't tell by my avatar, it's the last one that came out before Y. I started with the much earlier ones myself in this order: IV, R, D, OG1,2, J, A, W, Masou Kishin, Endless Frontier, the VTX trilogy, OGs, and 30. And out of them, I've beaten, D, OG1&2, J, A, Endless Frontier 1&2, and the VTX trilogy. I also have the side games of Eiyu Senki, Compati Hero, Battle Soccer and even SRW Pinball. I even played the SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays but crapped out soon as I test ran it.
I'm actually enjoying playing through V, X and 30 as I'm doing all three in tandem before Y comes out all on my YouTube channel. I don't have a best choice per se but 30 stands out for having the strongest message any of the series ever had and it's a motto we all should live by.
Not to mention, getting a metric ton of units from other units not many forget actual exists from other games and franchises.
And that motto is this:
