Online play was a big part of the Dreamcast's identity. It was the first console with built-in online support. It was also a big selling point.

Totally. And I mean hell, without having it you'd be omitting the true PSO experience and that alone would probably be a Dreamcast Mini system seller. Also the seasonal/timed downloadable content stuff they did for Sonic Adventure.
