which pokemon versions did you pick?

Gold was my first Pokemon game & first game in general. I also had Silver & Crystal at one point.
I think I only ever rented Red/Blue/Yellow?
After that, I pretty much got both versions of each game as they came out.
I don't have a lot of my original Pokemon games, unfortunately.
I do, however, have most of them from gens 4-9.

For Me they are:
1st Generation: 🔴🔵🟢🟡 (Originals and Remakes 🔥🔴 & 🍃🟢)
2nd Generation: 🥇🥈🔮 (Originals and Remakes 💛🥇 & Soul 🥈)
3rd Generation: Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald (Originals and Remakes Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire)
4th Generation: Diamond, Pearl & Platinum (Originals Only)
5th Generation: ⚫⚪ (The Original and the Sequel to Both)
6th Generation: (X & Y are Good Games but not as much as the previous ones)
7th Generation: 🌞🌝 (They're good too, but the Ultra versions of both are slightly better).

I somehow kept getting the version that was less popular. I have no clue how, as I wasn’t choosing the games when I first started playing.

Black instead of White, SoulSilver instead of HeartGold, Pearl instead of Diamond, Sun instead of Moon…
I had Y instead of X for some reason. That doesn’t fit the theme, but it is what it is.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve kept that going because I feel bad for the versions that are clearly not as popular (at least from the people that I’m around). That said, Generations 1 through 3 don’t have much of that. The most they have is people refusing to play any game but the third version. So, right now, I have Blue and a bootleg Yellow for Gen 1, Crystal for Gen 2, and I HAD Ruby for Gen 3 before it got sold.

Blue/Yellow
Gold
Ruby/FireRed (never finished Ruby or FireRed)
Let's Go Pikachu
Shield
Scarlet

I skipped quite a few gens in the middle, but I did finally play Emerald a year or two ago

A lot of the ones I chose I would choose with my friend who also played Pokémon with. We would look up what we could before the game came out so we could pick the opposite of each other. A lot of good memories filling out the Pokedex and battling with my friend.

Blue
Silver
Sapphire
Firered
Diamond
Soulsilver
Black
Black 2
X
Alpha Sapphire
Moon
Ultra Moon
Sword
Scarlet

Blue > Silver > Sapphire > Leaf Green > Pearl > Heart Gold > Black > Black 2 > X > Sun > Both Ultra > Eevee > Shield > Brilliant Diamond

And Hey You Pikachu ::surprised-pikachu

Pokémon Y
Pokémon Omega Ruby
Pokémon Sun

The fact they are all the reds in the 3DS is a just funny coincidence.

Pokémon Emerald (a gift)
Pokémon Yellow (a cheap modern mockup, the ones where the game is the same, but has battery)

my story with getting actual carts and a system (a blue/teal Gameboy Color) (pokemon is what got me into emulation because my folks didn't want to spend money on a gameboy and games and petty much i emulated before i bought anything so i was kinda behind until the 3DS gen thanks to how late emulation was done for that) starts with me getting crystal first.

then i found a gold cart lying on the ground at a building that used to be the middle school that someone clearly hacked to hell but forgot to hack in way that enabled trades so i had to wipe the cart out (at this time i had gotten a GBA so i could link trade).

as for gen 3 i picked up emerald then ruby and fire red.

i only got diamond for gen 4 i kinda wish i gotten plat and/or a gen 4 remake game because those are freaking expensive to get now.

gen 5 i gotten black and white 2

gen 6 i gotten omega ruby and later Y.

gen 7 was Sun and ultra moon.

i've pretty much maxed out the play timer for all of these games my gen 2 carts batteries died so they don't save anymore and i'm not sure of myself enough to do the replacement with a similar sized but much longer lasting battery fix.

after that the direction of pokemon changed in a way that pretty much drove me away from the series so i never bothered with the switch gen games.

Third versions doesn't count? well then:

Gen 1: Blue, sorry Charizardheads, but Blastoise FTW
Gen 2: Silver, i absolutely LOVE Lugia
Gen 3: Well, this one is going to be hard... um... Ruby i guess?
Gen 4: Diamond, i guess
Gen 5: Black all the way, original as well as sequel, Reshiram is the best of both Dragons, elegant yet intimidating

N/A: Sixth Gen onwards (Sorry, i still has no 3DS or a machine that can emulate without exploding)

Broadly fine, but not one of favourite general Pokemon or starter Pokemon!
Lugia is my favourite Legendary!

I hope you get the chance to play gen 6-onwards! Sun/Moon was a lotta fun and might be my favourite since Gold/Silver?

One of the greatest choices I had to make in my young life was whether to get Pokemon Red or Blue. Blue was my favorite color, but Red had a Charizard on the box...

In the end I had Red, Gold, Sapphire (and Emerald), SoulSilver, Platinum, X, Alpha Sapphire, Sword, then lost interest in the series. Interestingly, as a kid I used got "the first" of the two games, but now I actually tend to prefer the second ones, on name aesthetic alone (Blue, Silver, Sapphire, Moon, etc).

I picked yellow and gold when I was a kid then stopped playing Pokemon for a while.
Got back into it with shining pearl on Switch.
Have you had a chance to play Legends Arceus?

No, not yet.
Fair enough!
