Which ones should i get? The Yo-Kai Watch games for 3ds (including the first blasters/busters) or the remakes of Dragon Quest Monsters 1 and 2?

I'm currently on a playthrough of Yo-Kai Watch 1 and I'll say that the capturing mechanics are a bit frustrating at times. Very RNG heavy to a degree that you don't get in other monster-catching RPGs.

If I was give the choice now, I'd probably go with Dragon Quest: Monsters.

So the dragon quest remakes uses the dragon quest joker 2p engine so it is much different than the gbc/psx games. I played them and they took over 200+hours to catalog all monster caught, except the wifi exclusive. I do recommend playing Joker 3 before them. That game is much funner.

As for Yokai...avoid at all cost. THAT GAME SERIES SUCKS>>>>>>>

If you're willing to spend just a bit to try, I think "Yo-kai" first title on 3ds can be found cheap online, so you could see if you like it: that's my favourite of the series, despite being the first one without the Qol improvements found in 2nd and 3rd title.

I've never played the DQ Monsters (only played DQ8 on ps2 of that series) but I may give them a try after reading this thread.

Yokai Watch is a wash, like, it has to be one of THE least satisfying CCRPG experiences I ever played next to Fossil Fighters; Frontiers. I plead with you, friend, don't waste your time or money on those games. The idea of a Yokai oriented CCRPG is amazing, but the Yokai Watch series gameplay is barely above a cell phone game. Combat is practically automated and the player barely has any input,

Dragon Quest Monsters is just Dragon Quest, with monsters. It's literally the same system of character development as the core Dragon Quest games, so if you like those, you'll love Monsters. In fact, from Joker onward, the series really leans into all of the mechanics introduced in 8 (including Tension and a Point-by system to learn skills in various professions). It also adapts a Shin Megami Tensei style fusion system to grow your monsters, needing you to match monsters of different types and grades to generate stronger ones.

Glad to see there are some people that aren't blinded by 2010s nostalgia, if you just read the opinions on the yo-kai watch series in the mainstream plattforms you would think it was the best monster catcher series on the 3ds, when in reality: the games have great graphics, animations and pretty beefy postgame, but the combat sucks (just the same 3 minigames over and over again), forgettable music and the way you capture yo-kai is a kick in the nuts, especially since it's always the 3 same backgrounds, also i find kinda funny how these games base their story on how wacky they can be but don't deliver on gameplay, meanwhile mario & luigi delivers on both ends, more so since bowser's inside story

Still, at least yo-kai watch never really overstook it's welcome aside from the games overseas, the anime was kind of dull to watch when i was younger and even then i felt like it was just to sell games and toys (which was), normally i don't have a problem whith this kind of franchises if the original product itself is good, but the yo-kai watch games for 3ds aren't

Although you guys were talking about the main series, what about blasters/busters? also do you recommend the superstar saga remake? might as well alongside dqm be the only remakes on the 3ds to be worth giving a shot, becuase let's face it, superstar saga's gameplay wasn't very good
