Going with PS2 mainly out of nostalgia but also because I regularly go back and play PS2 games. Whether revisiting or trying something new from that era I missed out on. The PS3/4 era doesn't have that much options for games to revisit unless it's like Dark Souls/Bloodborne or street fighter.

The PS2 by a long shot. Maybe it's my nostalgia clouding my judgement a bit but the amount of games that were made that really made the system stand out really brought it home. I do believe that the PS3 could have done better especially with it's underutilized gyro feature. Killzone 2 did use the gyro for some parts of the game which really impressed me when I was younger lol.

Darling. The PlayStation 2 was and still is a masterpiece.
In an era when creativity still mattered. The PS1 had its charm, but the PS2 truly revolutionized gaming with its extensive library and innovative titles.

The PS3's library was decent, but nothing groundbreaking, and the PS4 and 5? Well, they seem to be more obsessed with graphics than gameplay.

Sometimes I wonder if the industry has forgotten how to have fun and be creative.

The PS2. I had to think about it a for a bit, though- both the PSOne and the PS2 have libraries filled with bangers. In the end, the PS2 won out for having more Silent Hill (especially Silent Hill 3, which never got an Xbox port and has the best theme song in the series IMO, which is saying something given how amazing the others are) and GTA games, not to mention Ratchet & Clank as a true exclusive that never popped up anywhere else until very recently.

The PS3 had a lot of a good games- The Last Of Us, God Of War 3, Twisted Metal and the Ratchet & Clank games for the PS3 come to mind, but it ultimately suffered for being far too expensive at release (despite still being the cheapest Blu-Ray player for the longest time, everybody was pirating their movies back then because it was still more convenient when streaming hadn't come around) and being stuck in the late Aughties era where grey crud was the color palette of choice for everything because "realism".

The PS4 has some good exclusives (Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima and the Insomniac Spider-Man games come to mind) but was released in the current era of gaming where sucking the hobby dry like a corpo leech and attempting to transform as much of it as possible into a service where it can be shut down when it ceases to make even more money than it did the year before has become the perogitive of every major gaming publisher. The PS5- well, like @Zerpina said, what games?

Sweetie, might I suggest breaking up that much text next time?
It's well-written, but a rather big busy block of text.

Done. Yeah, I have quite the problem with run-on sentences. Still probably looks nauseating in parts, but I can't think of a better way to explain what I hate about modern gaming at the moment than that hideous run-on sentence. If I do, it'll get shortened.

Playstation 2. It's the best catalog of games period, not just for Sony.

There's great games on every console, but the 3 GTA's on that system give it a huge advantage already, and there were a lot of innovative games on that system. I still play my PS2 on the regular.

GTA is good but why do we always put them on a pedestal?

I never found the GTA games all that great, really.
Yes, a open world game was neat, and for the time, a massively impressive accomplishment for the system. But the game itself is mediocre at best.

Once you hit the 3-4 hour mark, the novelty wears off.
It’s kind of like a single-player MMO... go here, get quests, collect stuff, rinse and repeat.
Granted, most games are like that, but I dunno, in my opinion, I just find the GTA games ho-hum at best.

They did pick good music for each entry, I’ll give them that. And a lot of the time, I’d let the game run and just listen to the radio stations, just to hear the off-the-wall commercials or radio talk.
That was vastly more entertaining, at least to me, than the game itself.

Honestly, sometimes I felt like the radio was the real star of the show.

Sorry for asking but:

Do you have to put "(Serious):" for your comments? I mean if you're joking we would know or you could use /s (as much as I don't really like it since telling you're joking ruins the joke).

I just think that back in the 00's when Open World was a rare concept it could've been great and that video games were in their rebellious phase of edginess it was funny to kill people at random and doing crimes when in most games you're the "good guy".

I also like how open and varied the areas were but nowaday the novelty feeling is gone. Only Red Dead Redemption gave some new spark as it's set in the old west.

The fact we no longer have GTA competitors just gave Rockstar the Red Carpet and they don't have to make efforts since there's no competition to give the most.

GTA VI will be a GTA IV+++ with the additions from V but none of the revolutionary aspect of III nor IV imo. Unless they rework the way you do missions.

I don't want GTA to just be a mission based game in an open world with third person shooting elements, we already got these for 20+ years.

Oh, sweetie, why bother with labels?

*snickers* I just like to sprinkle a little chaos.

Maybe I do it because I enjoy watching the world burn
*glances at a spoon* or maybe this spoon is whispering secrets, telling me you’re just a puppet with pretty strings.

Anyway, I have my own little jokes.

Like, why did the clown go to the psychiatrist? Because he kept laughing at the darkness.
Or maybe I’m the clown, and you’re the punchline. *giggles*

At first I was going to say hands down ps2, but then I thought about it for awhile. The PS3 did get off to a rough start but it finally did away with the one thing that was working against me on ps1/ps2, and that was region locking. The ps3 did have a lack of JRPGs for my taste buds after the buffet on ps2 with the only ones I look fondly back on were on ps3 the Tales Of series and Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2.

With no more region locking importing games became second nature. Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn being digital only in NA? I will just import the European version. Those guys behind Robotech still holding the Macross license and blocking them from releasing any games/anime in the West? I can just import them. Games based on Anime also jumped forward in quality from Macross being a generic schmup on older platforms to a full blown 3d action game.

But for more on game library besides imports. This also felt like the last generation where we could get multiple entries in triple a games. Infamous being one of my favorite open world games having 2 entries plus the awesome vampire dlc then also Prototype 1 and 2. I prefer these open world super power games over the current Spiderman games. Then we also got 3 Unchartered, 3 Resistance, 2 Killzone, and 2 Grand Theft Autos games.

Then you start getting the HD collections of series for God of War, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and others. Then you start to get the idea of why I can't write off the PS3 as having the top library out of the playstation consoles. Sure the JRPGs one is a poor point though they did have ps1 and ps2 classics to remedy it but that isn't technically the ps3 library. And the appearance of digital only titles is viewed in a bad light but this was when we could rely on Europe getting the physical version to import. I will have to throw my vote in for PS3 top library especially after giving me my first experience of being able to play Street Fighter 3 online and getting my ass handed to me.

PS2 biggets library and the best selection of JRPG
PS3 Next best selection of jrpg + Yakuza 1-5 + demon souls and dark souls
PS1 Decent selection of JRPG
PS4 Decent selection of JRPG + Yakuza games + Souls games

In that order for me.

What do you think of the SONY Playstation Portal Remote Player ? I think that this part is the further development of the PSP.

SONY Playstation Portal is stupid. So first 500 euro for a ps5 plus another 200 bucks for a controller with a screen.

The best part with switch "even if I hate Nintendo" I can take it anywhere can´t do that with a portal. It´s like Sony taught he the Wii U was a nice idea. Even when the Wii u was the worst selling console in recent years.

And no I don´t think it´s was a part of feature development for a new psp it was just a pure Cach grab. If they have a new PSP in the works it probably was already in work before portal and result of the Switch and steam deck and asus rog popularity.

The portal stupid take on Wii U and only made fore easy cash. It´s as stupid as when Sony deicded hey the PS Vita should use special micro SD cards only they sell that cost 5 times more than a regular micro SD card.

I give Nintendo allot of shit but Sony and Micsorft is up their when it comes to pure dumb greedy shit. But at least they not trying to sue your ass over a game mechanic.

GTA is good but why do we always put them on a pedestal?
Can't speak for everyone else but they are the gold standard for me when it comes to the PS2 era.

They re-created what games could be with the blend of more real world simulation(ish) situations and settings compared to the more cartoonish and fantasy styles of other games. I love Zelda, Mario, etc. but these games hit way different for me at my late teen era of life and captured me more than anything else.

So I'd say it's a personal thing. I'm not putting them on a pedestal as much as I'm just stating they were a major reason for me putting the PS2 catalog up as the best gaming catalog.

It's not even a question, the ps2, the ps3 and onward is inferior to it, ps1 is it's only competition.
