Which JRPG story stuck with you long after you played it?

Xenoblade, Mother 3, and Bloodborne have lived rent free in my mind for more than ten slutty slutty years
And idk if it's considered an rpg but Shadow of the Colossus also had a massive impact on me. i revisit all these soundtracks regularly, and they put me right back into those experience. To me there's nothing quite like emm. Small shout out to Fire Emblem Awakening as well. Very normal about all of these games.

Xenogears , magic , tech, religion, ethics, love , hate , god . And that's only a fraction of themes making it one deep engrossing game that keeps you wondering what's next and how far the game intends to push the envelope . A thirteen year old me developed a interest and understanding.of philosophical and psychological topics while trying not to get in over my head. Honorable mention ff6 /3 introduced my innocent young mind to a scale of drama and character study I wasn't aware of before in any medium let alone the world. I'm a writer today thanks to this game. And that plot moment in the middle that defys story telling in games for it's time . A monument to nothingness, a motive of the games antag which is scary to think.

For me is Final Fantasy 8 psx .
As Main Character is Me, thinks as me and behave like me, i had a fortune to meet Stenzek, and now i can have this masterpiece with HD textures on my phone, while back then i was stuck in home by old SCPH-1000 Playstation 1

ironically, in modern times, ff14
i know it's an mmo, but i really believe shadowbringers had one of the strongest finales in jrpg history
one thing that blew my mind was how the last zone was more of a very deep and introspective look into everything we've come to know, and what we have never known, which is very far detached from the usual "THIS IS THE LAST ZONE GUYS LET'S GO, OUR FINAL SHOWDOWN WILL TAKE PLACE HERE, CHAAAAAAAAARGE!!"
i feel like the game honestly could've ended there, but then endwalker came and it didn't have as strong a finale as shadowbringers, but it had the most highs spread throughout everything in between

i quit recently after the recent patch 7.2? dropped, cos i honestly don't fucking care about dawntrail anymore 😂 it's like if luffy had already found the one piece, YET the journey is still going on? like duuude no more, that's it, that's the end, just stop already
I wish I cared about FFXIV's story past HW.
I guess I'm an old head when it comes to FFXIV. I started in patch 3.1 and played nearly every day for over 9 years. I finally left cause the game has turned into a shell of what it used to be. That plus I realized after a forced break that I'd accomplished more with my life in the few months I was forced to be away from my computer than in the entire 9+ years I played FFXIV.

Anyway, I appreciate the FFXIV love anyway <3

i've been trying to veer away from ff14 for the past few years, but my friend really wanted to keep playing with me so i just kept going, but honestly now that i quit, i feel so relieved to be free from it
it's been feeling very repetitive and stale and the fact that it's an mmo means it's a social game, but i just wanted to play the game solo the longer i played it
i was kinda getting sick of the community as well and the glams (outfits) which just absolutely pander to the fans that beg for it
they don't even look "final fantasy" anymore and look more straight out of TinierMe 😂

2017-2025
a good little-under-8-year run
i'd say ff14 is only worth playing for completing the story at least once
don't bother trying to get too into it or else you'll be sinking your entire time into it, then you'll come to a point where you're like "i just wanna play other games already"
trust that instinct

I didn't really get into Stormblood even after multiple attempts, and seeing how much the jobs I liked changed + the newest expansion make me feel okay with not trudging on xD

Might make me basic, but FFX sticks with me.
There's some really interesting shit in that game that I don't think has been matched in another title.

Every one of you is fantastic. I'm glad that I got to read every post and each really resonated with me since I've beaten a good majority of what has been named. Your experiences are awesome and are like my own. I could seriously talk about JRPGs for days and not get bored.

- okay I'm not doing it that way on a forum. But I really want to.

A year ago, that game changed my life for the better. It pulled me out of the pit I spent most my life in and ensured I didn't slip back in before I was able to stay out through my own power. It is so much to me.
A RPG maker game helped you? hahaha

A lot of great games were made in RPG Maker, and the fact that many more mediocre at best games were made in it doesn't change that fact. Perhaps you should try some of them, instead of dismissing them for such silly reasons?

Metal Max Returns

I beat it last week and this game has actually no real story behind it but the world of it and its sparse lore overall just vibed with me perfectly which turned me into a Metal-max fan instantly .
Hunting my bounties , upgrading my team and the tanks / vehicles while exploring the wastelands are just awesome and gave me those mysterious Pokemon Gen 1&2 vibes with those secrets , empty buildings and secret dungeons that the adventure was pure and lore made the world much more bigger than it is . Very immersive and Cloe is best girl ever .

Grandia 1

Adventure the JRPG . The music was awesome , General Mullen is the best antagonist ive ever witnessed (and my favourite character) and the story always hits me hard . Especially the whole bit before Justin enters the ship to get into the different continent . The Soundtrack just relentlessly perfected the moment that i always get watery eyes and feel it . That game was awesome .
