interesting you skipped over the first bravely, but i understand lol.
i'd say bravely second, i love FF5 since the SNES but it's actually quite too simple compared to BD
the brave point system is really cool too.
waiting for the remaster of bravely second.
bravely default was a good game, but that storyline repeating itself like 5 times lol... dumbest thing i've seen in a JRPG

FFV is fantastic gameplay and jobs stuff wise, but if you want to play this for the story its no where near as good as IV and VI, but Lenna and Faris and Gilgamesh rock (sorry I first played it in an older english patch with different names.. Bartz was Buttz...).. I still havent played Bravely Second yet, so Im no expert

I feel like comparing FFV's story to others where they're completely serious in tone is a disservice to the harmonious blend of coffee that FFV is, it knows when to be rich in flavour for serious moments
Galuf's last moments kinda got me real good ...

But it also has been peppered with a healthy dosage of sugar for a creamy and very fun aftertaste of amazing, light-hearted moments and pure joy

I love FFV and is probably my favourite in the franchise. I love that blend of comedy, insanity and serious moments. I love it when my turtle has a dragon ball fight with that cursed evil tree ::eggmanlaugh

I've played BS this year, it was worth it.
I remember I played FF5 on emu many years ago, BUT I quit before the final dungeon (don't know why, maybe I did other things, but I liked mixing classes).

FF5 is great for its mechanics, but I can't stand the plot part. As for Bravely Default, it's important for being a spiritual continuation of traditional FF, but I have problems with the visual language of some classes. So both are mixed bags for me. If this is considered nonsense or not, you decide.

no I really love the Lenna and Faris story arc (like I said I dont know the "official" names, cuz of an old eng patch)... oh yeah Galuf's moment was great.. I do like how cute they intersperse humor in it.. cuz I love female pirates almost as much as I love space pirates......... and maids... I think 4 and 6 are probably my favorites in the franchise.. although other stuff called "final fantasy" in the West was great like here its called Final Fantasy Adventure on Gameboy but its a Mana game originally, or the other gameboy Final Fantasy Legend games but are actually part of the SaGa series... I spent hundreds of hours on those back in the day... I still think of Final Fantasy Tactics as my overall favorite in total tho cuz I love Shining Force, Ogre Battle/ Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem, Farland series, Langrisser series... but yeah I havent tried Bravely Second yet

The names are perfectly accurate actually, only that Buttz is Bartz these days, though his home town being called Lix was just so on the nose for the play. Lix's own Buttz ::kefka-48

I've been actually eyeing the Langrisser series after having played a lot of Fire Emblem, but i'm curious, did you ever play games like Disgaea back in those days or were you a little off put by it?

I remember hearing of those "Final Fantasy" games actually a long time ago, thank you for reminding me of them!

You know what my biggest turn off regarding FF5 is?
Galuf dying.
no joke, this ruins the game for me, especially because
I really don't like Krille as a replacement.

Honestly, I agree.
No one should, and could ever replace Galuf for me as heartfelt as his last moments are. Krile had really big shoes to fill, but no one can really replace a badass, genuinely loveable, and pun-slinging grandpa.

for real? "Lix's own Buttz"? that is fantastic... yeah I have all of the Disgaea games on my TB drives but yeah Im kinda put off to try them cuz I heard about all the HUGE numbers in the fighting... I did play thru the Prinny psp games tho.. yeah Langrisser is awesome, the first one on Mega Drive/ Genesis starts pretty difficult but goes better... no where near as hard as mastering Ogre Battle... another great spinoff series of a bigger one is Last Bible from the Shin Megami Tensei series.. great on gameboy and game gear etc

Also, one more point to add, here is that
She inherits his powers but truthfully has zero proper character development, it's as bad as Amarant in FF9.
I agree she isnt a good replacement character, but her job outfits are so cute

She's a throwback to some FF3 class designs, but I don't particularly like the approach.
you got a point but I think 5 is essentially the sequel to 3 mechanics wise.. in my opinion I guess.. the guy who made 2 went off to do the SaGa series... I like the wonderswan versions of 1 and 2.. but still, her outfits are cute... not as good as Faris' but still cute

Amarant really stung because of his supposed 'history' with Zidane which is dropped as quick as your truth nuke for this point ::winkfelix His design was kickass too, I loved his Afro Samurai-esque hairdo and convict / hitman background.

The huge numbers really do put a innate lack of satisfaction in the combat because you can get hopelessly lost in either vying to constantly improve it until it caps out, or you lose your motivation and will to to play. Thankfully, the grinding can only be seen as a sane amount for the necessity of enjoying the story and maybe enjoying post game content here and there. I love the games, but I'm not insane enough to go max everything to 9infinity just to go fight some damn post-game boss.

Disgaea has a lot of inherent charm that's not just tied to the outlandish and ridiculous grind hell that it is known by.

I think I'll take a peek at Ogre Battle ... you've got my interest there with how you mention it, also I heard a little bit of Last Bible through the grapevine myself, it has some seriously interesting plot, especially the 2nd one.

You're right. My headcanon is that FF4 is FF5 and FF5 is FF4, if we are talking incremental sequels. It would have made much more sense this way.

Don't get me wrong, design wise Amarant is great and I always keep him because Ninjamonks are weird and wonderful, but it feels like a huge omission to not develop him, especially in a title that was a generational sendoff.

Ogre Battle is great, but take my advice, don't worry to much about leader reputation (Chaos Frame) the first time you play. Just enjoy it and learn, then later chase other endings once you're more familiar with mechanics.

yeah the Last Bible games are great, I really like the game gear one.. plot does go hard for 8 bit haldheld jrpgs for the time.. almost like a PC-88/98 game of its era.. yeah I love grinding like I love smoking cigarettes but yeah Disgaea always seemed off to me gameplay wise.. I do love the art and characters tho... I do need to give it a shot... oh if you play Ogre Battle, the hidden characters, items and story arcs are hard to find and Id recommend using a walkthrough in this day and age, it was crazy trying to do it in my teens... SPOILERS... I do hate how my witch girl Deneb cant be saved if you want better characters and story later down the road... I love Deneb

Thank you so much for informing me a witch girl Deneb can be recruited, I'll just go ahead and sacrifice a whole planet of characters just to keep cute witch girls in my party ::hellmo

Edit: Also, which one do I play first? There's a lot of entries on the Repo ...

Thankfully, Deneb
Doesn't really die, just transmigrates, which is why there are many Denebs throughout the franchise.

It takes work to get the reputation back up, yeah.

The Saturn version is the best looking and has the most maps. No painful loading like the PS1 version, either.

There's a lot of versions here and going by their taglines I thought they were sequels and prequels ::sailor-embarrassed, but if they truly don't matter, I'll probably grab the PSX version since I love playing games on Duckstation, the emulator, I've heard the Saturn version has more content (5 more levels and a boss supposedly) but I'm none too bothered much by those additions

If you can emulate Saturn, opt for it instead for Ogre Battle.

OB64 is placed right after it. Tactics Ogre is also plot related but plays entirely differently. For Tactics Ogre you want PSP. Knight of Lodis is a prequel to Tactics Ogre.

Edit: The PS version has an ugly font and terrible performance, it's not just a matter of content.

aw damn I didnt know the Saturn one had extra stuff, now I gotta play it... but yeah that screen shot is... intimidating.. to say the least... Im not a fan of the psx remakes of SFC/SNES games due to all the loading... it ruined the chrono trigger version on psx... but no, its up to you, I certainly am no expert... check out Witch Craft Works anime if you get a chance! super cute
