I've owned both before, but I always preferred the PS Vita more than the PSP. Who doesn't like playing God of War 1-2, Helldivers, and Persona on the go? You could also play some PSP games as I remember. Modding this thing was super easy as well — PSP on the other hand had worse graphics and the game library wasn't really my type of games. Overall, the PS Vita is the go-to handheld game console I've owned.

The Vita wins for me by default by being backwards compatible with PSP, atop on all the other reasons like more power, hacking scene, indies etc.
But the PSP definitely felt more substantial and luxurious when it arrived. The Rolls Royce of handhelds as someone called it.

I’m going with the PS Vita. From my own experience, it’s great for games, everyone already knows that, but for me, the simple fact that you can play PSP titles with a second analog stick makes everything way more comfortable. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, for example, feels so much better than having to use the infamous “crab claw” on the D-pad.

The only reason the Vita is technically "better" is because it can play PSP games. So the only thing that makes a Vita worthwhile is turning it into a PSP.

Otherwise, Vita kinda sucked.

Get a PS Vita and turn it into a PSP that can do some more things, cheat the system

Is it just me or does the Vita have what feels like a frame of input lag compared to PSP when playing PSP games (and feels like more when playing PS1 games)?

If this is true the PSP may be better if you know you'll only ever play PSP/PS1 games and nothing more, otherwise the Vita obviously since it can do more.

PSVita can play so many games, way more than PSP. Vita can play, of course, Vita games, PS Mobile games and A LOT of ports of tons of games. I'm playing Zelda Ocarina of Time ported to Vita today, btw.

Oh, and the emulators, Vita has so much more raw power to play emulators... Also Vita has better screen. There's no way you can compare Vita with PSP, sorry.

I have a PSP Go which is my daily driver and the device I'll use for every trip I go, but Vita is a better console.

The Vita is a really neat thing to physically hold and use, it can do many things, aside from the proprietary memory card thing, there weren't many drawbacks to it in its day. That said, I opened mine and went, "hey neat, let's play [whatever I played]" and went about my business. This only happened because years earlier I'd opened a JP PSP when they launched and went, "oooooooooh" because it felt so fancy. The PSP is just more memorable to me. Also, the Vita never had the lilac purple color, so it loses by default.

I mean, look at that beautiful fucking thing. That we don't consistently get video game machines in this color is a shame and a crime.

Gotta be the PSP for me, I just picked one up for myself for Christmas after not having one for a while. The PS Vita wasn't a bad console, but it always felt... cheaper? Like when holding it in my hand, it just didn't feel as solid.

Techinally the PS Vita but if we're talking about the exclusives games for both handhelds then the PSP. People overhyped the Vita to the point that I can't even recommended it.

Both. Because I want to play games more and explore unreleased games. (Like RPGs and Anime)

Vita just because with Adrenaline you can play PSP games.

vita is better
but overall i played on my psp a lot-lot more

im playing on psp often these days too
i would probably use my vita instead if its memory card didnt fail

ergonomics wise psp is just more fun to hold in the hands for me (compared to vita 1000)
i find vita buttons to be too small, too sharp, too clicky. start and select are just...
and i dont like oled screens. it probably has less than 200 hours on it and i can see burn in if screen is solid color.

psp on the other hand most likely has around 2000 hours on it (most of which were monster hunter and god eater), and still works as the first day i got it.

i love mid 2000s and psp library is amazing for that. overal presence and feel of the device is a lot simpler and just, easier to enjoy for me.

i think id like vita more if i started with the slim model.

ill try to revive my vita in the near future. ive been getting into visual novels lately, and having higher resolution for text clarity is a huge improvement.

both are honestly amazing, even today. depends on what vibe you enjoy more 🤍
