Which game from your childhood gives you the strongest summer vibes? What makes it so special to you?

Probably Victory Road. When it popped up in the 7-11 I actually stopped buying the other misc crap I sometimes bought (turbine whistles, GPK cards, candy) just turned it all to quarters to play the game. During that two week period I even went out looking for returnables outside of the group I normally traveled with, and probably spent hours digging through the weeds in ditches on the sides of roads, and along trails in the woods.

Out of scope for this discussion, but as an adult I've been obsessed with the Boku No Natsuyasumi series (and the likes, both old and modern) since I saw a preview on an old PlayStation Magazine disc.
Boku no Natsuyasumi is really a great gem of the PlayStation catalogue! I played Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 for PS2 since there is an english translation and it was an amazing experience from the beginning to the end. If you can, this summer, give it a try!

Oh dang I forgot about the English translation! Ironically the preview I saw was for that game. and later I got the PSP remake of Part 1 and then Part 4 when it released. Thanks!

My childhood memories are kind of shot at the moment but an old tradition of mine was to play sonic the hedgehog 2 when I finished a grade in school, to kick off the summer. I guess a lot of the genesis sonic games occupy that same space, since I played them in collections. Thats the best I got for now.

Well i can only say Harvest Moon friends of Mineral Town

I don't have any summer vacation here but everytime i have a long week of holiday like semester break etc. i usually just play harvest moon, same run same strategy. I don't know why i didn't got bored by this game lol.

I would say it's the older Tekken games for me but 3 in particular. Have good memories of playing it with my cousins in summer but they also have some good beach stages that contribute to the summer vibes. And it's hard to describe but for some reason they have great music that suits the summer season really well

Thank you for mentioning this, if it wasn't for you mentioning this game I wouldn't find one of my favorite YT channels(gnosis), I saw that he made a lot of videos about Boku no Natsuyasumi style games, it really sparked my interest. I have such a hard time instilling in my daughter the idea that every moment is precious, it falls flat most of the time because I'm not, at least not anymore, the most perfect representation of this ideal, but I wish she had the opportunity to learn like I had, so I'm trying to share media that could motivate her to be more grateful. Maybe I could play Bokura No Kazoku, such great time to be alive that we have the opportunity to "go back in time" like this.

cool spot on megadrive - 1st level is even set on a beach , possibly the most summer feeling game i ever played

loved that game rented it most weekends.

Pretty much all arcade games, Arcades and summer are synonymous to me.
There's literally nothing more amazing to me than playing arcade and arcade style retro games to this day in summer.

Atari 2600 and summer go hand in hand, especially at night, it feels so alien, like you're receving alien signals from somewhere

Another thing that gives me very strong summer vibes are VFD games, VFD games in summer is an ABSOLUTE must, there's nothing else like it

This summer I haven't set up my Arcade yet, it usually goes up by now because I have other gaming stuff in its place, but I also have MODERN games I enjoy in summer and that's usually stuff that resembles retro gaming but is modern, modern shmups, modern retro style arcade games and so on.
Right now I have this set up and am playing the heck out of these games on my hot summer nights,

Sorry I had to post pics as usual because this is one of my favorite subjects
I've probably posted the same pics before when talking about this...

Old games, new games, there's TYPES of games I'd rather play in sumeer than just one specific game.

Tho when the Cicadas start, it's mandatory Pocky & Rocky 1 and 2 on SNES
very gold pic I've posted it a billion times, generally SNES is not a summer system, mega drive is, but Pocky & Rocky ARE summer games.
