Which game franchise/series do you dislike, even though you wish you didn’t?

For me it would be American Football games because of their rules of the game and as well as the limitations of the freedoms like defense and offense and that is noticeable in most games of this genre, especially the Madden NFL Franchise and strategy games with card elements because I am terrible at placing cards to place and sometimes the CPU plays better than me and almost beats me in a game and that shows in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Franchise And I feel like both genres aren't for me or I'm not adapted enough to play games in those genres like those.

Probably Final Fantasy. While it was once great, everything since FFXIII has missed the mark for me. I want to like them, I really do, I want to care about Final Fantasy again, but I just can't.

Another one is Horizon. Pretty to look at, boring af to actually play.

Monster Hunter

I have tried everything over the years to make myself like these games, have even bought all of them since the 3DS era. I have even put hours into each one of them, trying desperately to click with game, but I just end up getting bored every single time. On paper, I love the concept of finding resources, carving monster parts, and forging new weapons and gear, but in practice...I just end up getting burnt out, and move onto something else that can keep me engaged. If Monster Hunter was more of a boss rush game, without the hunting and gathering, I think it would click with me more, however that wouldn't be "Monster Hunter" would it?

I wished I could enjoy Mystic Ark, but this game is just not for me. Non-customizable characters with 0 personality, quests that are most likely a chores or just stupid puzzle? Thanks no!

The game is beautiful, soundtrack is peak, the worlds has the fairy-tale themed setting I love in JRPGs (how I could not loving talking cats wearing pirates outfits or people living inside fruits and vegetables????). But oh, the game is annoying, boring and uninteresting when you play it

Kingdom Hearts
Every Western US game that acts like a movie and tries to be realistic
Mortal Kombat
Any game series that has a dungeon crawler gameplay

To be honest when Sony made narrative focused games I kinda started to stop caring. Video games shouldn't aim to be movie wannabes.
Yes. Video games should not act like movies with narrative plots.

Just like in title there are few game franchises which I would like to really enjoy like my other friends but I don't. For me there is a Xenoblade Chronicles where game setting is just for me cause I like Cyber Fantasy vibes but I totally dont like how every game feel drawn-out and boring and the action/story never kicks in for me. The other Example is or are 2D fighters. I'm a Tekken kid who totally dont get how 2D fighting games work and those are kinda boring for me. But the iconic status of the series like SF or KOF makes me want to give its new releases a try.
Share your example of games you really wanted to like, but that didn’t click with you as much as you’d hoped
Trails, especially Cold Steel and Daybreak.

i wonder if you tried out the other xeno games like xenogears or xenosaga if you disliked xenoblade
as a fg enjoyer, I can't help but smile a little when you say you like tekken but dislike 2d fgs cause it feels like every tekken player only likes tekken lol so It's not just you (i personally love tekken and also love all other fgs so i am a rare example)
for me personally its not that i wish i could get into them but i am friends with alot of people that play those 3d gacha games by hoyoverse and kuro and every time i try to get into them, i end up dropping a week later as they tend to remind me of other games i like way more lol. i dont really have a proper example of a game series i wish i'd be into but i dont, but that would be the closest one

Tales of. Not really cuz I hate what it does, but cuz the first and only Tales game I played all the way through is Zestiria.
Oof, my condolences. I'd have dropped the series too if Zestiria was my first game. ::sadkirby

As for me, I wish I could get into tabletop rpgs like DnD. The depth and creativity available seems limitless. I've tried campaigns with acquaintances but always feel alienated because everyone else is so much more into the game than me.

Not a franchise, but a specific game. Metroid Dread. I just cannot stand the way Samus handles in the game she feels so squirrely to me with Mercury Steam's incessant need to use every single damn button on the controller often for redundant abilities, and I really hate L planting your feet for a 360 aim mode instead of the old 45 degree button of Super and the GBA titles. The completely half-baked stealth mechanics coupled with invincible stalker enemies that can see you through rooms is also not my cup of tea. I hate stalkers in general in games.

Super and Zero Mission are two of my favorite games of all time so I'd really like to enjoy it, but I just don't.

Any of the farm simulator games like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and all that. Never grown up with any of those kind of games and I just don't really find them that interesting to play as I don't really enjoy those style of games. I get the appeal behind those kind of games but they aren't my taste unfortunately, probably would be much different if I was introduced from family into it at a younger age like RPGs happened for me during that time but it is what it is.

Preach! I disliked how Samus controlled in Samus Returns 3DS and I dislike how she controls in Dread. Mercury Steam had some cool ideas but they needed to reign it in a bit. Sometimes less is more.

summon night
guilty gear
ys
trails
shining series

I kinda love the trails series, it's just that I have to play multiple games to enjoy the story for the new games.

Fallout, i am so used to JRPGs that WRPGs are like trying to explain math to a flea, Fallout is no exception, which is a shame since a man opening cans of food to the game's ambience, the memes and the show are the reaon i really want to play them

Basically any stealth heavy game series like Deus Ex. I just can't stand stealth at all, but a lot of these games seem really interesting. You can say some of these games can be played without stealth, but they clearly punish you giving the worst outcomes for doing that so whats the point.
I'm surprised the game still lets you not doing stealth then.

Yes. Video games should not act like movies with narrative plots.
The PS2 was a perfect balance of narration vs gameplay.

Since the PS3 they started to go overboard with that (same with the Xbox). Even some later Wii games like Zelda Skyward Sword also had too many cutscenes.

Because I don't like 2 things: Men protagonists over women, and ugly faces / bodies. Games like God of War are the perfect expression of what is ugly in my mind, that's why I have never played any of them, despite of considering them good games. Expedition 33 is another example, I really want to play it but its "uglyness" throws me away.

Protagonists ought to be women, cute and young, that's my point of entry in a game. They don't need to be necessarily sexy, don't get me wrong. They just need to be cute because, actually, I despise when the game focuses too much in the "sexyness" of the protagonists, like Stellar Blade.

To everyone its own, right? :P

I played Xenogears and Xenosaga (only the first two parts), and for me those games are among the best in the whole genre, right after the Trails series. Xenoblade, on the other hand, feels like a game that at its core tries to be a boring MMORPG while also attempting to be everything else at once. Its battle system, focused on auto-attacks, is far less engaging for me compared to the almost perfect combat systems of Xenogears and Xenosaga.
When it comes to fighting games, I kind of like MK9 and USF4, but I wish I enjoyed them more. Tekken games offer a lot of single-player content, while I don’t see much of that in any Street Fighter, for example, because those games feel more competitive and arcade-focused at their core than something made for casual couch play. (maybe im talking bullshit but that's how I see it)

i get what you mean there's a reason tekken fans tend to only like tekken
i think it also helps that they tend to be the games with the most filled single player content and from 5 and onwards you have whats probably the best customization in a fg too
also if you never played xenosaga episode 3 and really enjoyed the first 2 episodes then you're in for some great time
