ASIDE FROM EMIO THE SMILING MAN! I ALREADY INTEND TO PLAY THAT!

I’m talking the older titles. Which games should I find a fan translation for, sit down, and play? I’m in the mood for a visual novel, murder mystery type of game, and these seem like the best place to get my toes wet with the genre.

To my knowledge, only the SNES version of The Girl Who Stands Behind has a fan translation. Besides that, there's only 3 games on the franchise, counting Emio (well, 4 if you count a Satellaview one, if i remember correctly), and the other two received a remake on Switch that match the visual style of Emio. Those were translated into English by Nintendo themselves, although they're a tad expensive and I've never seen 'em go on sale. Mayhaps emulation can save you.

Dude, I'm gonna be honest... as a retro gamer, I can confidently say that you should just play the Switch games... they are much, much better in every way

Go with Switch ones. My absolute fave is the second one, 'The Girl Who Stands Behind', then 'Emio' and 3rd is 'The Missing Heir'. Have them all and fully completed, love this trilogy.

I thank everyone for the help! I’ll be looking out for the Switch titles, and hopefully I’ll get the SFC BS entry set up for emulation play!

I’m in no large rush to play these games, so I’ll keep it in mind.

I'm a bit late on this, but if you're interested in playing the original FDS versions of the first two games, there's a GitHub full of Lua scripts you can use on Mesen/FCEUX that'll give you an English translation.

There's also translations of Shin Onigashima and Yuyuki on there if you're also interested in those.
