I mean this with the upmost admiration and respect.
I have no intention of ever watching A Silent Voice again.

My heart can not take it. It hit too close to home in ways I struggle to articulate.

A silent voice is the one I liked the most when I watched them, and also I think it's better. Your name is kind of disappointing as usual with Shinkai's stuff. The good thing is watching is more fun thank most of his movies because of the humour.

Not really a fan of either tbh, but I'll have to give it to Your Name, even though I am a certified Makoto Shinkai hater™️, for the sole reason that I fell asleep during A Silent Voice and I remember Your Name more clearly ::sailor-embarrassed

I saw both around the same time and slightly prefer A Silent Voice for being more unique of a premise. That said, I voted both. Now if Weathering With You were in the conversation though, it'd mog both even though it's not from 2016.

A Silent Voice was made by a very overrated studio, which often gets pity points because of the incident. Also, the manga is better.

Your Name, is Makoto Shinkai doing his thing, and I'd say has a lot of weak moments, with a lot of the style over substance I don't like, and, it does insist upon itself.

A Silent Voice is better because the cinematography alone is genius, there were a few things from the manga that got cut, but its fine overall. Kyoani is still highly overrated.

They're both great films.
Your Name was one of the best anime I'd seen in theatres since Paprika.
Besides watching Voices of a Distant Star with my anime club back in 2003, I hadn't seen another Shinkai film until watching A Place Promised in Our Early Days around 2009, aside from those I missed out on most of his other films. Your Name didn't have the same effect on me that Koe no Katachi did, as I read the manga in it's entirety earlier that year before seeing the film. I remember being shocked to see some of the character designs in the film as it looked like they animated the manga, which I wasn't expecting. Aside from that I used used to use Koe no Katachi for Japanese listening practice and have seen this film so many times I have memorized quite a few lines from this film, though still not as many as Gabriel Dropout. Ultimately, Your Name has a great OST, though I like the story and themes of A Silent Voice much more.

Both are good. A Silent Voice is my absolute champion of anime movies. Your Name is a must for those who look for unique romance movie.
