Where should I begin with Star Wars

The original trilogy. The prquels are not exactly good, they are mostly boring and have a lot of bad acting. I haven't seen rogue one and I heard some good things about it, but from what I gather it's probably a movie for people that are already fans of star wars.

First decide if you want to dedicate your time to the original EU canon, or Disney's current canon.

Either way, start with the original Trilogy, then prequel Trilogy. Then what follows depends on your answer to that first decision.

I watched the first six movies for the very first time back in 2023. The original trilogy (Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi) are all fantastic movies. Great writing, great performances, cool world-building, and a great soundtrack.

The prequels are... meh. I did not enjoy the first half of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but the second half of the movie was alright. Episodes II & III (Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith) were a bit better, but still nowhere near as good as the original trilogy.

I haven't seen the Disney trilogy, but I noticed that the reception towards them seems to be mixed. Some people like them while others consider them to be even worse than the prequels.

Download the fan version of the original trilogy that's unaltered and basically represents what was seen in the theatre on release. It's out there somewhere.
Didn't even know that was a thing. I've ONLY ever seen the Special Edition.

I'd say start with the original trilogy. I prefer the original editions but the special editions aren't too bad. I saw them all in the theater. The prequel trilogy's also not as bad as everyone says. I couldn't watch the sequel trilogy though. I fell asleep about a half hour into the first one and haven't watched any of the other Disney star wars movies. The Kotor and tales of the Jedi comics are also really good. Actually, most of the dark horse star wars comics are good. It's a shame marvel took over the comics again after Disney bought star wars.

I always prefer plot order over release order when possible, so you can better make sense of things as you go along. That said, the franchise became so inane over time that I honestly prefer the side materials over anything canon.

Yeah, original trilogy, original cuts if you can find them, is where I’d stop unless it really hooks you. If it does, don’t expect any of the other movies to be good. I can only personally suggest maybe Season 1 of Mando, Andor, and most of the games, old and new. Weirdly I think the popular games have handled the material better than anything post-1983, save Andor.

watch the movies in release order and see if you like them.
i didnt, i think its for nerds and never bothered with anything else star wars except republic commando which was very fun.

That's what sci-fi is about. SW is just not particularly good sci-fi.
