It's almost like a law... you get online for the first time and make the most edgy, embarrassing email address possible so you can join all the equally edgy and embarrassing sites ever.

And that email might carry you for a very long time... but, eventually, it starts feeling awkward to hand out "XPunkRockZombieX@aol.com"* as your means of contact whenever you are asked for one. At that point, you cave in and get a boring dad's address (usually your full name).

When was that for you? For me, it was around sophomore year. It was just increasingly embarrassing telling my address to people at a time where you couldn't really point them to your Facebook or Twitter and be done with it. Burying my old one seemed like a rite of passage into adulthood of sorts, and one I don't often hear mentioned.

What about you?

*Dummy example account -- doesn't actually exist.

I continue to use my gmal account created back in 2008...the name associated with it is also in my case quite funny, but it also has the merit of being short. I had chosen a name of a not too well known Italian commedia dell'arte character.

I used to play this game called Pako and Nova on someone's phone and Google just ask me for my Google Play account but I don't even know what the hell is an email or even internet at that time, I just want to play.

Luckily, as stupid as I was, my brain just suddenly leveled up and just type a random name like a block shape or "SharkySharky" (I thought that was the coolest thing I ever did)
And that's when my achievements journey started

I simply found gmail to be more convenient to use than the host site owned by my dad. Last I checked, he still owns whitemice.com
He reeeeally likes Hitchhikers

I haven't since the 90s. Yeah it's embarrassing but I decided to keep it anyway. My first screen name using AOL (America Online) on my Compaq Presario back in the late 90s was based on a Kid Rock song- Bawitdaba. 25 years later I'm still using it, on different services of course.

I had the unfortunate experience of having someone get into my first email. They changed my netflix acc to their email and tried to access my steam, looks like they didn't do much else but I changed everything to my current email the day I found out
That was almost 2 years ago, I used that email since 7th grade

I still use it. And it has like 2000 spams I haven't deleted. There's gotta be scam mails from ten years ago sitting at the bottom of the pile. :ROFLMAO:

I also have a Gmail given to me back when you needed a invite. Much spams. I really need to make a more quarantined email for important stuff.

Ooooh! I also got my Gmail when it was invitation-only... I remember begging on random forums to get it XD Now I have about 17, for different purposes XD

I got my first email address really early on (I needed one to sign up for Neopets), but for some weird reason, my parents wanted me to share it with my siblings, as if my 2-year-old brother was getting a lot of online correspondence. As such, the first address I ever had contained our three first names in full, making it impossibly long and ensuring that all future digital accounts would be made without my parents’ knowledge. It was also made on a platform provided by an obscure ISP that used its own proprietary inbox system, which took roughly four trillion years to load a list of received mail. Said ISP has since gone bankrupt, and that address no longer exists. PHEW!!!

My first school email address, provided to me in grade school, was actually so good I continue to use a variation of it professionally. I also use the combination of my high school locker’s padlock as my PIN for banking. If anyone ever gets a hold of my school records, I’m F-ed.

Mine have never been too bad. Mostly game related but usually just a character name@. I got in early enough to avoid having to put numbers or anything else in them. I changed internet provider in the late 2010s, so I lost the email address I'd had for years but I made a totally square 'my name@' for things like job applications. My Gmail is still silly.

for me it was late 90s and my first email was from @gurlmail.com
its because i have 0 knowledge about internet and i asked my older sister about "where can i make email?"

its a very girly website so once i found yahoo later i dropped the gurlmail

I was forced to drop my first @att.net address when my father dropped the service when I was 12. Wasn’t able to login at all. Made a Gmail and have stuck with it since.

Well I have other accounts but those are for work/school/porn.

In my early days on the internet, I always tried to avoid creating an email account, because I was born in an era where no one taught me how to do it and even when I learned it on my own, it seemed like a hassle, because the site required the entry of another existing email address as a guarantee (I don't remember if during that period of time I used a friend's or one of my teachers' emails from that time), however, at some point, it became necessary to have one, so I decided to use names from book characters, but when I started creating my first CV I created another one, in order to separate serious matters from simple pastimes.

I used the ability of a character I liked and then a real life political group that wasn't very friendly during the 40’s as my Gmail.

So uh yeah edgelord over here

My email as a very young pre-teen was my first online username, which was incredibly try-hard and edgy. I dropped it a couple years later in favor of "RanmyakuIchi", which I've been using since, though I have a couple with my real name for more professional uses too.

Where tf does Ramy even come from?

It was poorly translated romaji I came up with as a teen that I never bothered changing and have been using for so long now that it just sorta became my online name. It feels weird to change it now.
