I suspect that this thread will be niche, but I don’t care. I just need to know this isn’t a phenomenon that only I have experienced.

Have you ever seen somebody’s collection of games for a certain console be in a shoebox? Has yours ever been in a shoebox? And which system was it?
Doesn’t need to be a shoebox either, it can be any container that isn’t a drawer or shelf. I’ve seen people keep their Game Boy Advance games in a sand castle bucket.

For me, the system I associate with this is the Super Nintendo. I remember distinctly that the first time I saw SNES games outside of a bespoke game store, it was somebody storing their five or so games in their closet in a shoebox. The only game I remember them having was some Indiana Jones game, but it’s possible they had a Ms. Pac Man game too.

Before I sold off most of my collection, that was the Genesis.

I used to own like 30 games for it and had them all in a box like that.

Literally everyone I know, me included, used to store cartridges in shoeboxes.
I also remember seeing James Rolfe mention how he and everyone he knew as a kid did the same.

As kids, we didn't have much space. This shelf thing is a modern invention. We made do with shoeboxes.

Such is the way of the worm.

I used to have a couple of these bad boys for my Amiga floppies

Heck, they're probably still around somewhere.

Before I sold most of them, I had two "Soda case" boxes lined with NES and SNES games.

I had a small hidey hold in a cabinet for everything else, like Gen/MD, N64, GB/GBA, and CD Jewelcases.

That puppy is great! The best I’ve ever seen for floppies are a couple of blue containers that my mom had.

I’ve also seen Super Famicom collectors have these guys, which came in a few sizes and have the system logo embossed into them. They seem to be a similar idea, though they lack the key latch from the floppy holder, which kinda blows.

I naively thought anyone with that much zeal for their games would keep the cardboard boxes

An honestly genius way to do it. I laugh, but it’s freaking brilliant.

I guess it does seem kinda odd in hindsight. My Grandparents owned a vending company when I was a kid, so we got a lot of these soda boxes for storage and packing :loldog

Yup! My mom was a teacher, so I had a lot of her old school equipment when I was a kid. Whatever your parents don’t want, you get passed down when you’re a kid.

I left my shoebox of Super Nintendo games at my buddy's since he still has a console and a CRT. I was just over there playing them yesterday! Had em since I was born basically. We still love getting a few beers in us and passing the contoller playing Pilot Wings lmao
